Nautor Swan, which is best known for building sailing yachts from 28 to 131 feet long, has passed 60 percent of its ownership to Sanlorenzo Group, which also includes the Sanlorenzo superyacht shipyard and the Bluegame range of open and fishing powerboats.

The plan is for Sanlorenzo Group to have 100 percent ownership of Nautor Swan by April 2028, at the end of a four-year transition period.

“I have dedicated 26 years, together with a skilled and professional team, to developing and transforming this already famous and iconic shipyard into an international brand recognized for quality, elegance and reliability, the key elements at Nautor Swan’s core,” Leonardo Ferragamo, Nautor Group president, stated in a press release. “Today, my goal is to propel forwards a brand that is so beloved and respected and ensure its longevity by entrusting it to one of the world’s leading nautical groups, led by Massimo Perotti, one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the marine industry.”

Perotti, the CEO of Sanlorenzo Group, added in the same press release: “Signing this agreement represents another milestone for our strategy. … We are talking about a niche brand, ultra-exclusive, whose philosophy is aligned with the one we have in Sanlorenzo.”

Nautor Swan was founded in 1966. The Boatbuilding Technology Centre in Pietarsaari, Finland, is expected to remain the main production site for its yachts, while the partnership with Sanlorenzo Group will allow for more research and development, including the use of new materials and sustainability options in construction and outfitting.

The Sanlorenzo Group’s plans include pursuing such developments along with expanded markets while “always preserving the heritage and the exclusivity of the brand, respecting the competence and experience gained over the years by Nautor Swan. The union of the two brands Sanlorenzo-Nautor Swan—each with its own exclusive and limited offer, dedicated to a proper audience of connoisseurs, not overlapping—will create a unique nautical pole in the world. The best of motor and sailing yachting.”

Ferragamo will remain president of Nautor Swan, with Perotti as CEO and Giovanni Pomati as co-CEO.

Wait—doesn’t Nautor Swan build motoryachts too? Yes. The brand is best known for its sailing yachts, with close to 20 models stretched across Yacht, Maxi and ClubSwan lines, but there is also a Nautor Swan Motor Yacht Division. Its offerings include the Swan Shadow, Swan OverShadow and Swan Arrow. Overall, Nautor Swan has built more than 2,350 yachts in the past five decades.

At 12 knots, the builder says range is around 2,500 nautical miles. Phoenix has never been chartered, but its new owners could help offset costs by putting it into charter.

The foredeck is open, but can be shaded with a sun shade while the cockpit is shaded by the aft deck of the skylounge. HMY Yacht Sales stated, “The exterior design of Phoenix seamlessly integrates sophistication with comfort, and her expansive, curved hull provides significantly more interior and exterior space compared to a traditional raised pilothouse vessel of similar length. The tri-deck configuration allows for an additional full-beam Sky Lounge—a feature rarely encountered in most raised pilothouse yachts. While retaining classic styling, Sanlorenzo has adeptly incorporated modern elements, including a retractable balcony in the main salon, a spacious hydraulic swim platform, and a jacuzzi on the flybridge.”

10 Motoryachts Over 80 Feet For Sale Now https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/brokerage/ten-yachts-over-80-feet-for-sale/ Mon, 20 May 2024 19:01:45 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=64196 We review 10 used yachts ready for owners who want to level up to the crewed-yacht experience.

Most boaters start their journey with owner-operator-size boats, but as their enthusiasm for the pastime grows as well as their voyaging aspirations, so does the length of the boat. There comes a point where some boaters will choose to leave the helm chair and enter the crewed-yacht arena. If you’re a boater considering that move, here are 10 ready-to-roam yachts looking for new owners and new adventures.

Ocean Alexander 27R
The Ocean Alexander 27R Almost Done is on the market with just 470 hours on its twin 1,650 hp MAN diesels. Top speed is 24 knots. Asking price is $7.99 million. Courtesy MarineMax

Ocean Alexander 27R – Almost Done – Pompano Beach, Florida

MarineMax has Almost Done, an Ocean Alexander 27R, listed at $7.99 million. The low-hour 2022 build will make a lasting impression with its beach club, whirlpool spa and five-stateroom layout which has an on-deck master stateroom and three VIP staterooms in total.

The “R in this series from Ocean Alexander, stands for Revolution,” Yachting previously reported. “It’s an apt description because the series, which also includes the 88-foot 27R and 97-foot 30R, is different from anything else Ocean Alexander has built in its 40-plus years in business. Starting with the styling, which is decidedly modern and edgy, there’s a deliberate break from the builder’s more traditional look. It’s all the more notable that the appearances of both the traditional cruisers and the Revolution series come from yacht designer Evan K. Marshall.”

Sanlorenzo SL96A
This Sanlorenzo SL96A is a 2021 model with a four-stateroom layout and 29-knot speed. Asking price: $9.25 million. Courtesy Allied Marine

2021 Sanlorenzo SL96A – Gatsby – Miami, Florida

The Sanlorenzo SL96A Gatsby is currently listed with Allied Marine for $9.25 million.

“The ‘A’ in SL96A stands for asymmetric and Sanlorenzo achieves this unique design by, Conserving only the gangway on the starboard side and eliminating the one on the port side, which shifts to the roof of the superstructure,” says Sanlorenzo. “The asymmetrical configuration, seen on SL102A first, frees up about 10 square meters of space for internal use. With respect to a traditional layout, this arrangement offers more space, improving luminosity and flexibility.”

Furniture placement in the salon helps to define the yacht’s social spaces. A six-person L-shaped settee and ottoman are immediately to starboard with only a cabinet separating the settee from the sliding glass doors leading to the cockpit. A formal dining space for eight guests is adjacent to the salon’s settee, a feat only achieved because of the extra space afforded by the asymmetrical design. A flat-screen TV is mounted forward against the bulkhead separating the salon from the galley forward and to starboard, and the on-deck master suite forward and to port. A day head is just forward of the bulkhead and to port.”

Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht
The Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht Obsession has 27-knot speed, a five-stateroom layout that sleeps 10 and a two-cabin crew quarters. Asking price? $7.4 million. Courtesy Gilman Yachts

2018 Viking 93 Motor Yacht – Obsession – Stuart, Florida

Gilman Yachts has Obsession, a Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht, listed and an asking $7.4 million. The 2018 enclosed-flybridge motor yacht has charter potential with its five-stateroom layout, two crew cabins and a sub six-foot draft.

Yachting‘s initial review of the Viking 93 Motor Yacht reported how the New Jersey boatbuilder’s flagship model was based on its 75 Motor Yacht’s design, but also drew inspiration from a Viking owner’s Westport 112.

“One Viking owner also has a Westport, and Viking’s designers and top brass spent a good amount of time on board that yacht learning how to nail down the needs of owners in that size range. What Viking developed from that experience is a boat built for socializing, one that lets hands-on owners feel at home while enjoying mega-yacht features.”

Hatteras M90 Panacera
Twin 1,900 hp Caterpillar C-32A diesels with just 500 hours on them give Jetstream a reported 24.7-knot top-end speed. Courtesy Atlantic Yacht and Ship

2019 Hatteras M90 – Jetstream – Key Largo, Florida

The Hatteras Yachts M90 Panacea called Jetstream is listed with Atlantic Yacht & Ship for $10.3 million. The 2019 build has an options list that totals more than $2 million. The motoryacht has a four-stateroom, five-head layout that sleeps 10.

This yacht can go the distance or go quickly. Captain’s choice. Twin 1,900 hp Caterpillar C-32A diesels provide power on Jetstream, giving it a reported 24.7-knot top speed and a 22-knot cruise speed. The engines have just 500 hours on them. Jetstream also has a Bahamas-friendly 5-foot-7-inch draft.

This Hatteras M90 Panacea has the performance, but it also has luxury cruising comfort. The salon feels thoroughly modern, thanks in part to the white-oak sole and light-tone furnishings. Frameless house-spanning windows and indirect lighting adds a sense of elegance and enhances the salon’s open feeling.

Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge
The Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge Lanikai has a five-stateroom layout, low-hour (450) MTU diesels and 24-knot speed. Asking Price: $9.8 million. Courtesy Alexander Marine

2019 Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge – Lanikai – Seattle, Washington

Alexander Marine has Lanikai, an Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge, listed for sale with an asking price of $9.8 million. The 2019 motoryacht has a five-stateroom layout, a crew quarters and engines with very low hours. Let’s take a closer look.

When Yachting first reported on the 100 Skylounge we noted at the time that “Ocean Alexander already offers a 90-footer with a four-stateroom layout whose guest spaces would qualify as VIP suites on most yachts. With its OA 100 Skylounge, the builder has added an on-deck master, much like the kind aboard superyachts. That’s one reason why Ocean Alexander calls the 100 Skylounge the entry-level yacht in its six-model mega-yacht series, which stretches up to 155 feet length overall.”

Hatteras 80 Done Deal

2014 Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht – Done Deal – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Atlantic Yacht and Ship Inc. currently has Done Deal, a 2014 Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht, listed for sale with an asking price of $4.1 million. The 80-footer has a four-stateroom, five-head layout with accommodations for eight, and two crew cabins that sleep four.

The four staterooms include a full-beam master stateroom amidships with a centerline king berth and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth and an en suite head. Paragon 94
The Paragon 94 has a three-stateroom layout and 20-knot speed. Asking price: $2.975 million. Courtesy Worth Avenue Yachts

2009 Paragon 94 – Rhapsody – Chesapeake, Virginia

Rhapsody, a 2009 Paragon 94, underwent an extensive refit by Lyman Morse in 2018. The 94-foot motoryacht is currently listed for $2.975 million with Worth Avenue Yachts, which represents a $750,000-plus price reduction.

The refit included servicing all equipment and systems, updating soft goods, adding a dining area, transforming the flybridge into an enclosed skylounge and repainting the upper deck space.

Twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar C-32 diesel engines work with the yacht’s planing hull form (with 13.5-degree transom deadrise) to help propel this 100-ton motoryacht to a 20-knot top hop and a 14-knot cruise speed. The engines have just over 2,000 hours on them.

Hargrave 82 Open Deck
The cruise-worthy Hargrave 82 Open Deck Roxy Maria is a 2007 build with 23-knot-speed and a $1.995 million asking price. Courtesy Hargrave Custom Yachts

2007 Hargrave 82 – Roxy Maria – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The 2007 Hargrave 82 Open Bridge motoryacht Roxy Maria could be a solid fit for an experienced owner-operator or for owners traveling with a small crew, according to Hargrave Custom Yachts, who built the motoryacht and is selling it for its current owners. The yacht is listed for $1.995 million.

When it comes to boat handling with or without crew, this Hargrave has upper and lower helm stations, bow and stern thrusters and two cockpit docking stations. There are also full walkaround decks and side-deck access from the lower helm station.

With regards to the interior layout, this yacht’s salon has three lounge chairs positioned around the room with a four-person sofa to port. The sole-to-ceiling, high -gloss cherry wood creates a comfortable, warm and inviting entertainment space. This interior design is from Yacht Interiors by Shelley.

2020 Ocean Alexander 84R – Panacea – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Ocean Alexander 84R Skylounge Panacea is currently listed with Gilman Yachts for $6.65 million. The 2020 motor yacht has accommodations to sleep eight guests in its four-stateroom, five-head layout.

Yachting has previously reported that “the 84R is built via resin infusion with structural foam, fiberglass and carbon fiber, for strength at sea. Carbon fiber is applied to high-stress areas and used in construction of the sky lounge. Aluminum beams in the bulkheads and ceiling further strengthen the yacht.”

85-foot Burger Checkers
The 85-foot Burger Checkers underwent an interior refit in 2023. The current asking price is $2.9 million. Courtesy Worth Avenue Yachts

2001 Burger 85 – Checkers – Destin, Florida

Worth Avenue Yachts currently has the 85-foot Burger, Checkers, listed for sale with an asking price of $2.9 million. The 2001 build underwent an interior refit in 2023, including an updated Furuno glass-bridge navigation suite. The yacht has a three-stateroom, four-head layout, and has a main-deck day head.

Checkers can sleep six in its three staterooms, which includes a full-beam owners’ stateroom with an en suite head amidships. The owners’ stateroom features a king berth on centerline, a flat-screen TV at the foot of the bed, his-and-hers vanities, and walk-in closets aft to port and starboard.

The starboard VIP stateroom also has a queen berth and en suite head. The captain’s cabin has upper and lower single berths and an en suite head.

Sanlorenzo 57Steel Reviewed https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/sanlorenzo-57steel-reviewed/ Fri, 10 May 2024 19:00:06 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=64023 The Sanlorenzo 57Steel offers transatlantic range in serious luxury, including a 540-square-foot, upper deck owners' stateroom.

The post Sanlorenzo 57Steel Reviewed appeared first on Yachting.

Stepping aboard the stern of the second Sanlorenzo 57Steel, Virtuosity, I immediately understood what this model is all about: connecting to the environment and entertainment, indoors and outdoors. With the yacht’s side platforms down, the beach-club real estate adds up to almost 1,000 square feet. Add the gym next door, which includes a hammam, sauna and day head, and the whole area becomes one of the best wellness spaces of its kind on a sub-200-foot yacht.

Just like the smaller 52Steel, Sanlorenzo’s 185-foot-long 57Steel has a fold-down transom door. The quarter platforms reveal a sunken beach lounge open on three sides. Its glass-paneled ceiling doubles as the bottom of the main deck’s 13-by-8-foot pool. During the day, this beach club is at its best, bathed in a shimmering pale-blue light. After the sun goes down, its mirror TV (one of several aboard) and four-stool bar make it a great entertainment cave.

The yacht’s light, contemporary interior vibe is the work of Piero Lissoni’s design studio in Milan. The decor majors on oak veneers, soft whites and creams. It’s a less-is-more approach rather than a minimalist one. Interior lounge space includes the after halves of the main and upper decks, which have full-height windows on their sides and sliding patio doors to aft decks. The main salon includes a cocktail-bar entrance to its lounge and dining areas, while the sky lounge is more informal with low-slung sofas and armchairs, mostly from Italian brands Minotti and Cassina.

Music and dancing are also important to Virtuosity’s owners. What could have been a small media lounge abaft the bridge deck instead has as a DJ booth, turning the top-deck aft terrace into a nightclub dance floor.

Sanlorenzo 57Steel
This image illustrates the emphasis on outdoor living across all of the Sanlorenzo 57Steel’s decks. Courtesy Sanlorenzo

All three aft decks connect via stairs outside and with the standout interior design feature: the main spiral staircase from the lower to the upper deck. Created using a combination of steel, aluminum and plywood, and finished with a creamy matte lacquer, it’s gloriously fluted in shapes that seem impossibly organic.

Guest accommodations are spread across three decks. The 540-square-foot owners’ stateroom is forward on the upper deck. It has walk-in closets and a study, a forward-facing bed amid the wraparound picture windows, and a free-standing stone bathtub. From this stateroom, owners can access the two-tier foredeck terrace with a spa pool and free-standing furniture. Virtuosity’s owners have four armchairs on the lower level, and simple sun pads minimize visual clutter on the higher area.

The VIP stateroom is forward of the main lobby, which is amidships to starboard. The VIP also has 540 square feet of space, much the same size as the owners’ stateroom on the deck above. There’s a dressing area, including walk-in closets, and an Eames lounger and ottoman, as well as a desk. The double berth faces aft.

Another four en suite guest staterooms—two larger doubles, and two smaller convertible twins or doubles with Pullman berths—are accessed from a central lobby on the lower deck. All of the guest staterooms have en suites with light crema d’Orcia marble.

Sanlorenzo 57Steel
Virtuosity’s style of interior design is evident in this stairway’s blend of form and function. Courtesy Sanlorenzo

A portside amidships galley on the main deck serves as the crew hub, located near a main pantry and crew stairs to an upper-deck pantry and, ultimately, the wheelhouse, ship’s office and captain’s cabin on the bridge deck. There are six en suite cabins for 10 more crew forward on the lower deck—four with twin bunks, and two singles for officers—as well as a crew mess and crew galley. The latter area has a staircase up to a tender garage forward beneath the foredeck, as well as stairs down to the “tank deck,” which connects from the bow to the yacht’s cold stores, laundry and engine-room control booth. The engine room has its own air-conditioning system.

Visually, Sanlorenzo’s 57Steel makes quite a statement. With exterior design and space planning by Zuccon International Project in Rome, this model has a nominal volume of 1,050 gross tons. (At 1,021 gross tons, Virtuosity measures a little less.) Forward-raked bridge windows give the 57Steel a touch of go-anywhere styling, but it’s still a modern motoryacht with hybrid hull architecture—a modestly raked stem, square stem root, midlength fluted bow bulb, spray rails and flaring forward, and twin fin stabilizers and rudders. It has been optimized for displacement speeds. Twin 2,000 hp 3512C Caterpillar diesels hooked up to straight gearboxes and shafts deliver the thrust.

The yacht has a reported top speed of around 16.5 knots. Given its capacity for more than 20,000 gallons of fuel, the 57Steel’s range should be around 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, making it capable of crossing oceans.

Virtuosity started as a spec build for Sanlorenzo, was sold in May 2021, and was handed over to its owners 26 months later. It was made available immediately for charter via the firm that brokered the yacht’s sale, Fraser Yachts, meaning more than just the owners will be able to enjoy Virtuosity’s many delights.

Sanlorenzo 57Steel

Living Larger

The quad-deck 57Steel has more than double the volume of its trideck sibling, the 52Steel. Eight hulls of the 52Steel have been delivered to date, with two more under construction. The first two 57Steel hulls were delivered in 2023. Sanlorenzo announced in September that hulls No. 3 and 4 were sold and under construction.

What’s in a Name?

Virtuosity is the quality of being extremely skilled at something, especially in art, music, sport or, perhaps, yacht building.

Keep ’Em Moving

Sanlorenzo is now one of just a handful of yacht builders big enough to series-build multiple metal models simultaneously.

Try Before You Buy

Virtuosity is available for charter in the Mediterranean in the summer and the Caribbean in the winter at a lowest weekly base rate of about $440,000.

Sanlorenzo has launched six 500Exp superyachts since the new flagship replaced the builder’s 460Exp model. The 500Exp is a serious, MCA-compliant, bluewater-ready superyacht, built to cross oceans in luxury. HMY Yacht Sales has Arrow, a 2022 Sanlorenzo 500Exp, listed just shy of $32 million.

Arrow is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems allowing you to explore the world’s most beautiful coastlines, anchor in secluded coves, and embrace the sense of freedom and serenity that the open sea offers,” HMY says. “With its steel- hull construction, this Sanlorenzo 500 Explorer Yacht is capable of transatlantic travel, and the ability to explore remote destinations while offering luxurious comfort.”

Owners can expect a 4,000-nautical-mile range cruising at 11 knots, though the Caterpillar C32 diesels can push this 154-foot superyacht to a reported 15-knot top speed.

The yacht foredeck is accessed via the Portuguese bridge. Unlike many yachts today, Arrow’s foredeck is primarily used for PWC and tender stowage, which helps to keep the aft decks clear for entertainment and allows for an expansive beach club. The beach club utilizes the swim platform aft and a hydraulic fold-out terrace to port. It also has a day head, a flat-screen TV, a gym and a bar area with an ice maker and a refrigerator.

On the main deck, the salon’s formal dining space is aft with a lounge area forward. Sliding glass doors surround the dining area on three sides, while a table insert and two spare chairs allow all 10 guests to dine together. The lounge area has a six-person sofa with additional chairs.

The cockpit entertainment space on Arrow has been outfitted to stow a submersible, further cementing this 500Exp’s status as an explorer superyacht.

The sun deck is pure entertainment. Forward, a jacuzzi tub sits on the centerline and is flanked by lounge pads. Amidships, under the hardtop, is an L-shaped settee and an alfresco dining space for 10. Beyond the hardtop, the after section is used for sunning with four chaise-style lounge chairs.

The bridge deck has the pilothouse forward with the captain’s cabin amidships and the skylounge aft. The skylounge has an aft-facing, U-shaped settee and a flat-screen TV to catch the big game. Abaft the skylounge is an aft deck, which is partially shaded by the sun deck overhang and a sun shade.

The Sanlorenzo SL96A Gatsby is currently listed with Allied Marine for $9.25 million.

The ‘A’ in SL96A stands for asymmetric and Sanlorenzo achieves this unique design by, “Conserving only the gangway on the starboard side and eliminating the one on the port side, which shifts to the roof of the superstructure,” says Sanlorenzo.

A day head is just forward of the bulkhead and to port.

The enclosed galley will have foodies rejoicing over the space and appliance selection. The galley is equipped with Miele appliances, including a six-burner stove top (electric induction), oven, convection oven, dishwasher, as well as a Viking microwave, a Sub-Zero galley refrigerator and freezer drawers, Isotherm ice makers and a garbage disposal.

Sleeping accommodations on Gatsby include an on-deck master stateroom and three guest staterooms belowdecks, all of which have en suite heads. The on-deck master stateroom has a centerline king berth, a flat-screen TV and direct access to the side deck. The VIP stateroom is amidships with a centerline double berth, a desk and a built-in bench seat. The guest stateroom to port can sleep three thanks to side-by-side berths with an additional Pullman berth installed above the inboard bed. The starboard guest stateroom has side-by-side single berths.

The after section of the flybridge has a U-shaped sofa and room for loose chairs. There is alfresco dining for eight under the hardtop, but the hardtop’s powered louvered section allows for the captain to dial the sunlight up to 10. To starboard is the propane grill and sink. The helm station is forward with a two-person bench seat, and stairs to starboard lead to the raised pilothouse’s single-seat lower helm station.

Gatsby’s teak-deck cockpit has shaded alfresco dining for eight with loose chairs pulled up to its table and bench seat aft against the transom wall. Forward, the starboard side deck leads to the foredeck which has a low-profile U-shaped sofa and table abaft a two-person sun pad residing in the bow-rider position. Aft, a second three-person sun pad is up a few port-side steps.

Twin MTU 16V2000 M86 diesels provide power for Gatsby giving it a reported 29-knot top hop and a cruising speed of 25 knots.

Other notable features on board include:

  • Hydraulic bow and stern thrusters
  • 2/Kohler generators
  • Fin stabilization
  • EPIRB
  • Garmin electronics
  • Satellite Internet
  • Vessel-monitoring system
  • Asko washer-and-dryer combo

Sanlorenzo, Volvo Penta Announce Partnership https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/sanlorenzo-volvo-penta-announce-partnership/ Wed, 13 Mar 2024 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=62772 Sanlorenzo’s SX120 and SX132 will be the first superyachts to have Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform.

The Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has announced a partnership with engine-maker Volvo Penta that will bring the IPS Professional Platform onto the Sanlorenzo SX120 and SX132.

Sanlorenzo expects the two models to launch in 2025 and 2027, respectively. They will be the first superyachts installed with the IPS Professional Platform.

The IPS Professional Platform is designed for comfort, performance and sustainability aboard superyachts. Equipped with intelligent technology features, the IPS Professional platform reportedly delivers exceptional efficiency, with users experiencing as much as a 30 percent reduction in fuel consumption and emissions.

“When adopting new solutions into superyachts, we must always consider the experience of owners and the captain,” Johan Inden, president of Volvo Penta Marine, stated in a press release. “The IPS Professional Platform not only delivers new levels of efficiency and flexibility, but also elevates the yachting experience through the fully integrated helm-to-propeller platform.”

As with smaller yachts, the compact design of this IPS system frees up onboard space for other uses, and reduces perceived noise by up to 50 percent. Additionally, the forward-facing propeller design and dual power input reduce vibration levels on board.

Highlights of the new platform include a flexible dual power drive system that can be installed as a twin, triple or quad. Each yacht can have four to eight power sources, including traditional engines running on renewable fuels, fully electric or hybrid solutions.

This system also has intelligent power management. Eco Mode uses onboard sensors to automatically start and stop engines based on the captain’s power needs. The platform will consider optimal fuel consumption and engine run-time hours to engage the engine with the least hours for a given scenario.

In addition to running a traditional diesel setup and a fully electric system, there is also a hybrid solution. Courtesy Volvo Penta

And, this system has technology such as Volvo Penta Assisted Docking, Dynamic Positioning, and diagnostic information provided through a Glass Cockpit helm display.

“The wishes of the customer have always been a fundamental part of Sanlorenzo’s philosophy,” Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo, stated in the press release. “We begin at the intersection of technology and sustainability, combining the latest industry innovations with custom features and design that reflect the customer’s individual style. As the marine industry moves toward decarbonization, we continue to pursue a premier experience that adheres to our vision of a sustainable future.”

What else is Sanlorenzo doing that’s eco-minded? The yard has announced a Road to 2030 strategy that will include this year’s launch of a 50 Steel yacht with a modular Reformer Fuel Cell system. It’s reportedly capable of transforming green methanol into hydrogen, and then into electricity to power onboard hotel needs. Sanlorenzo says the system will lay the groundwork for the introduction of the first superyacht powered solely by green methanol, an advancement the yard hopes to achieve by the end of the decade.

La La Land, a 145-foot Sanlorenzo, is chartering in the East and West Mediterranean through September 2024 and the Caribbean for winter 2024-25. Lowest weekly base rate is about $317,500. Courtesy IYC

Two decidedly different builds from the Sanlorenzo shipyard in Italy have entered the charter market, one booking through IYC and the other listed with Westport Yachts charter management.

The newer of the two yachts is the 145-foot La La Land, a 2023 build that’s now part of the IYC charter fleet. It’s a Lissoni Limited Edition Sanlorenzo X-Space whose owner invested about $3.3 million in options to further enhance the cruising experience.

Accommodations aboard La La Land are for 12 guests in five staterooms—including an owner’s deck with a sky lounge, an alfresco lounge with a freestanding fire pit, a private pantry, an office, a walk-in closet and a head built with a heated sole and steam shower. The master stateroom also has direct access to one of two outdoor hydro massage pools that are on board.

Additional features aboard La La Land include two foldout platforms, a gymnasium, a hammam and a massage room.

The lowest weekly base rate to charter La La Land is about $317,500, with inquiries being accepted for the East and West Mediterranean through September 2024. For winter 2024-25, La La Land is expected to charter in the Caribbean.

Also now chartering is the 108-foot Sanlorenzo Daddy, which is new to the Westport Yachts fleet in the Bahamas this winter.

Daddy is a 2008 build. The charter agent says an extensive 2023 refit has left the yacht presenting in like-new condition. Daddy accommodates eight guests in four staterooms, including a belowdecks amidships master with a king-size berth, espresso machine and fridge. The VIP stateroom is forward with a queen-size berth.

Gathering areas for all eight guests include aft-deck dining, foredeck lounging, and flybridge entertaining with dining, a bar and barbecues. The retractable sunroof has a removable enclosure for extra protection from the elements as needed.

Daddy is also kitted-out for fun in the sun in the Bahamas. The yacht charters with two tenders: a 30-foot Jupiter powered by twin 300-horsepower Yamaha engines, and a 14-foot Walker Bay Venture with a 70-horsepower Yamaha. Watertoys include a two-seat PWC, inflatable paddleboards, tow toys and snorkeling gear.

The lowest weekly base rate to charter Daddy is $65,000. The owner is reportedly eager to secure holiday bookings this winter at a weekly base rate of $70,000, with a one-week holiday minimum.

Are tenders important for yacht charter in the Bahamas? Yes, if you want to make the most of water sports. The area is known for being shallow, which means the mothership can’t get into some areas that a good set of tenders can access for fishing, snorkeling and other activities.

The Miss Liza, a 2022 Sanlorenzo SL86 listed with Onewater Yacht Group, just saw its price reduced to $6.195 million. The 86-footer has a four-stateroom, five-head layout that also includes three crew berths.

Miss Liza’s entertainment potential becomes apparent the moment guests step through the salon’s sliding glass where an L-shaped settee, loose lounge seating and a coffee table fill the starboard side–offering plenty of seating for guests to have a cocktail and chat. Forward in the sun-filled salon–thanks to near sole-to-ceiling windows–is a formal dining table with a wet bar adjacent for easy access to cocktails.

Heading forward from the salon, an entryway leads to the country kitchen to starboard and helm to port. The country kitchen is outfitted with a microwave, electric cooktop, oven, sink, refrigerator and L-shaped seating and table. The salon is notable for its light-tone furnishings and fabrics, enhancing the sense of volume.

Stairs, across from the formal dining space, lead to the flybridge where guests are greeted with a C-shaped dinette just abaft the upper helm to starboard. The flybridge also has a bar, grill and TV to port. Aft of the dining area is a three-seat bar countertop and an additional C-shaped settee and coffee table on the after deck. A louvered hardtop lets the skipper dial in the amount of sun desired.

Belowdecks, owners get a master stateroom amidships with an en suite head and his-and-hers vanities. Forward, guests can enjoy either a VIP stateroom with a queen berth or one of two guest cabins.

When it comes to outside spaces, the SL86 has a foredeck lounge for some quiet time on the hook or at the quay. The center padding of the lounge seating can be removed, revealing an electric hi-low table. The cockpit also has hi-low teak table with seating for eight, inviting everyone to sit and dine alfresco.

The SL86’s tender garage accommodates a 12-foot six-inch tender for shoreside excursions to check out a local beach or to catch dinner in your port of call.
