Nautor Swan, which is best known for building sailing yachts from 28 to 131 feet long, has passed 60 percent of its ownership to Sanlorenzo Group, which also includes the Sanlorenzo superyacht shipyard and the Bluegame range of open and fishing powerboats.

The plan is for Sanlorenzo Group to have 100 percent ownership of Nautor Swan by April 2028, at the end of a four-year transition period.

“I have dedicated 26 years, together with a skilled and professional team, to developing and transforming this already famous and iconic shipyard into an international brand recognized for quality, elegance and reliability, the key elements at Nautor Swan’s core,” Leonardo Ferragamo, Nautor Group president, stated in a press release. “Today, my goal is to propel forwards a brand that is so beloved and respected and ensure its longevity by entrusting it to one of the world’s leading nautical groups, led by Massimo Perotti, one of the most brilliant entrepreneurs in the marine industry.”

Perotti, the CEO of Sanlorenzo Group, added in the same press release: “Signing this agreement represents another milestone for our strategy. … We are talking about a niche brand, ultra-exclusive, whose philosophy is aligned with the one we have in Sanlorenzo.”

Nautor Swan was founded in 1966. The Boatbuilding Technology Centre in Pietarsaari, Finland, is expected to remain the main production site for its yachts, while the partnership with Sanlorenzo Group will allow for more research and development, including the use of new materials and sustainability options in construction and outfitting.

The Sanlorenzo Group’s plans include pursuing such developments along with expanded markets while “always preserving the heritage and the exclusivity of the brand, respecting the competence and experience gained over the years by Nautor Swan. The union of the two brands Sanlorenzo-Nautor Swan—each with its own exclusive and limited offer, dedicated to a proper audience of connoisseurs, not overlapping—will create a unique nautical pole in the world. The best of motor and sailing yachting.”

Ferragamo will remain president of Nautor Swan, with Perotti as CEO and Giovanni Pomati as co-CEO.

Wait—doesn’t Nautor Swan build motoryachts too? Yes. The brand is best known for its sailing yachts, with close to 20 models stretched across Yacht, Maxi and ClubSwan lines, but there is also a Nautor Swan Motor Yacht Division. Its offerings include the Swan Shadow, Swan OverShadow and Swan Arrow. Overall, Nautor Swan has built more than 2,350 yachts in the past five decades.

Nautor’s Swan is preparing for the debut of the Swan 65 at Boot 2019 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The Swan 65 is a performance cruising yacht based on the same design philosophy and parameters as her big sister, the Swan 78.

Designed by Germán Frers, she’s intended to be sailed by a family, with or without a professional skipper — but she also can be raced with a full competitive crew.

Upgrades and options can tweak her for serious racing or for a more relaxation-oriented interior.

The Swan 120 is Nautor’s Swan’s second-largest yacht next to its ClubSwan 125. Nautor’s Swan

Nautor’s Swan recently introduced its newest yacht and largest model in its Maxi Swan series, the Swan 120. The design is a collaboration with longtime naval architect on Swan projects, Germán Frers, as well as interior designer Misa Poggi.

Amidships on the 120’s deck is the interior salon’s “coach roof,” raised slightly higher than the rest of the deck for more head room belowdecks. It leads aft to the yacht’s cockpit lounge where guests can enjoy a sundowner on her settees or a three-course meal when it’s converted into a dining area.

Just aft of the cockpit lounge, owners can have a belowdecks access point that’s surrounded by U-shaped seating and shaded by a retractable sunshade. The builder calls it a “snug-island” and it’s a good place to sit for on watch. It’s located right between the 120’s port and starboard helm stations.

The 120’s hydraulic transom transforms into a teak beach at anchor. The area is made larger when her 14-foot-9-inch tender and other water toys are launched from the stern garage. Guests can use the area to swim, sunbathe or even dine seaside.

An electrically controlled Bimini top hidden in the salon’s raised roof can shade the cockpit lounge shown here (top); Note the optional sun pads here as well as the convertible dining area forward in the cockpit. Nautor’s Swan

Access to the salon is through a 6-foot-wide, curved glass companionway door in the coach roof that, consequently, also provides natural light inside. Amidst the Italian textiles and leathers from Genovese designer, Poggi, there’s a C-shaped settee to port and a dining area is to starboard. However, another layout option is available: hullside windows adjacent to daybeds, providing an interaction with the sea that is “in true alignment with Misa’s core philosophy for the interior,” says the builder.

Owners can also choose between a forward or aft full-beam master suite while a guest stateroom with a double berth and two with twins round out guest accommodations. No matter the layout choice, the 120’s three twin crew cabins will be placed close to her galley and laundry area for ease of service. Her full-beam engine room is located directly below the salon, housing the yacht’s 450 hp Scania diesel.

For sailors who enjoy shallow-water capability, 120 owners can opt for a telescopic keel that reduces her draft from 18 feet to 11 feet 6 inches. And since Nautor’s Swan knows every sailor’s approach varies, the 120 can come with one of three sailing configurations. For the owner looking to compete, the racing package with a square-top mainsail with running backstays and a double-length bowsprit with bobstay is the way to go, and a concealed anchor system is available too.

Quick Specs:
LOA: 119’11”
Max Beam: 26’7”
Draft (Standard keel): 15’5”
Draft (Telescopic keel, optional): 11’6”
Displacement (light): 218 lb.
Displ. (loaded): 245 lb.

The Nautor’s Swan 78 will debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. Nautor’s Swan

Nautor’s Swan recently splashed the 78-foot Haromi in the bracing waters of the Baltic Sea. The investment-grade sailing yacht made her debut off of Pietarsaari, Finland, on what was reported to be an unusually sunny day.

Haromi was designed by German Frers for the open ocean, and is considered a true blue-water sailing vessel. As such, Nautor’s Swan had to use all of its hard-earned experience and knowledge to create a boat that was at once sturdy and exceptionally seaworthy, while also being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The boat has sleek, modern lines and a flared stern above the waterline. Her twin rudders and telescopic keel allow her to cover long distances quickly.

The yacht’s owner has a racing pedigree, and has enjoyed much competitive success. Because of his background, he asked Nautor’s Swan to kit the boat out with some bespoke racing features that really make her fly. She has an unusually long bowsprit, ECsix carbon rigging, a square-top mainsail with running backstays, halyard locks, additional power winches on the coachroof and a mainsheet traveler. All of these well thought out design choices help this boat sail quickly and smoothly over the ocean blue.

The Swan has a modern deck layout that caters both to actively sailing and to lounging once the owner has reached his destination. The builder took great care to make sure the deck was simultaneously neat and efficient, particularly when sailing shorthanded. To that end there are five powered winches near the twin helm stations aft, and all lines lead aft from the mast. There are C-shaped settees in Haromi‘s cockpit as well as extra stowage, two tables and an extra-large sprayhood. Aft of that, the teak swim platform functions well as a beach club once the vessel is on the hook.

Down below, the salon has panoramic views and is an excellent place for socializing when the weather is snotty. A forward master stateroom keeps the owner well rested while a VIP aft of that has a double berth. There are also two cabins with twin berths as well as a generous crew quarters.

The Nautor’s Swan 78 will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival this September.

Nautor’s Swan says the first hull of its Swan 95 S is now afloat in the Baltic Sea.

The Swan 95 S has a semi-raised salon, much like those aboard other fast cruisers in the Nautor’s Swan line of sailing yachts. There’s also a plumb bow and what the builder is calling a wide stern, all intended to allow extended cruising.

Hull and deck construction on the Swan 95 S are in carbon, adding stiffness with minimal weight. Inside are an owner’s stateroom plus three guest staterooms, along with two crew cabins.

Available option: The Swan 95 S can be built with a lifting keel.

Designer Germán Frers has designed the new Swan 65.

The Swan 65, the sistership to the Swan 78, features the same modern lines and wave-slicing hull form as the larger vessel. Twin blades to allow for maneuverability at high speeds and less draft.

The sailboat is designed to be able to act as a family-friendly cruiser and/or regatta-ready racer.

Cockpit configuration: There are two options for the cockpit: an open layout with a large alfresco dining space or closed with surrounding seats.

Belowdecks layout: Two layout options for the belowdecks accommodations include a master stateroom forward or master stateroom aft. Once decided, there are a variety of options for the guest staterooms and crew cabins.

New and improved: Nautor’s Swan says the design incorporates the latest in sailboat design with mast positioning aft, a J that is larger than the boom length and a mast integrated into the coachroof. Also new to the Swan design are the the 360-degree windows on the coachroof.

The Swan line was created by Sparkman & Stephens, and in the 1980s Germán Frers took over the design for Nautor’s Swan. To date, more than 700 yachts have been produced on Frers’ designs.

“We have strived to conserve her softness and harmony of the earlier relatives avoiding hard unruly behavior. She is new, clean and modern, without being tied up to any short-lived fashion.”

Nautor’s Swan has sold two hulls of its Swan 78, whose preliminary design was first presented in early 2016. Both owners will be first-time clients for the builder, with the yachts expected to be delivered in spring 2018.

“The second Swan 78 sold just from the drawings,” Enrico Chieffi, vice president of Nautor’s Swan, stated in a press release. “2016 has been a very busy year for us, having delivered the models ClubSwan 60, Swan 54 and Swan 115. The Swan 95 S is also nearing completion and is scheduled to be delivered next spring, together with the fourth Swan 115.”

The Swan 78 is a bluewater yacht with twin rudders and a racing-oriented keel design. Keel options include deep telescopic lifting, fixed deep and fixed shallow, all with the same twin rudders and standard sail plan. Five electric winches are intended to allow for shorthanded sailing.

Water-level feature: The Swan 78 will have an opening transom with a swim platform more than 13 feet wide.

Interior options: Owners can have their staterooms forward or aft, with two additional twin-berth staterooms. There also are quarters for two crew.

Nautor’s Swan is introducing the 80RS, part of the builder’s Performance Cruising range with features that include a protected cockpit, increased tank capacity, a full-beam engine room and added stowage.

German Frers drew the lines for the 80RS, which stands for raised saloon. The interior is done in light oak with attention to hull windows and deck hatches that create a bright, airy space. Eight guests are accommodated in four staterooms, including a master stateroom aft.

On deck, guests have a center cockpit for relaxation away from the helm stations and winches. The stern opens hydraulically for access to the water and tender.

“A long waterline length, performance bulb keel and generous sail plan on standard carbon spars all prove that this is a performance Swan in the finest tradition,” the company stated in a press release.
