Brian Kane, chief technology officer at GOST, stated in the press release that the “Superyacht Security Packages include everything needed to remotely monitor all activities on board the vessel from anywhere in the world via computer or smartphone.”

According to the companies, the benefits are that yacht owners, captains and crew can use these Superyacht Security Packages to watch live video of the yacht as it leaves the harbor, or to view activities in the salon, staterooms or engine room, all via the GOST iPhone and Android apps.

Cameras can be set to record clips on motion detection. The security system will send push notices globally via KVH communication channels. At the same time, the CommBox Edge Cloud Portal and mobile application offer real-time control and reporting on yacht data usage, network activity and status of connectivity.

Can the Superyacht Security Packages be ordered with other services? Yes. Value-added services in addition to the Superyacht Security Packages include KVH Elite unlimited streaming. It has no overage or usage limits for streaming HD-quality entertainment anywhere on board. GOST, which makes security and monitoring systems, says its Universal Control Unit can be used with the GOST Apparition IDP and NT Evolution IDP to be fully compatible for hardwired inputs for up to 192 zones.

The Universal Control Unit has traditionally been known for its wireless sensor capabilities, but it also can be used to hardwire GOST systems.

“While our UL-listed wireless transmitters are a great solution for many clients, we have many boatbuilders and after-market refit installations that can make full use of hardwired sensors such as door and hatch sensors, and float switches, to name a few,” Brian Kane, chief technology officer at GOST, stated in a press release. “Hardwiring a system is always a preferred option to reduce operator battery maintenance. It also lends itself nicely to the refit market with contact sensors, and wire runs are already installed.”

The UCU comes with a 4G LTE GSM Module for communications such as alerts, and arm and disarm functions. Local arming can be done via key fob, or optional 5- or 7-inch touchscreen keypads. Additionally, the UCU can work with any existing onboard internet via a third-party CAT5 ethernet plug.

The UCU can communicate with up to 32 wireless sensors, five relays and 32 users/key fobs. The system includes wireless, completely independent door/hatch contacts, infrared beam sensors, deck pressure sensors, high water sensors, DC battery low voltage, AC shore power loss and smoke detectors. It can also have wireless relay outputs for control of light switches, additional sirens, and more.

GOST has unveiled a new line of low-profile cameras called the Mini-Dome LED 1080P SS that can be installed vertically or in bulkheads, rather than overhead.

“We are constantly listening to our customers and trying to develop new solutions that meet their varied and individual needs,” Brian Kane, chief technology officer at GOST, stated in a press release. “Our new cameras give better performance and a more discreet installation than existing cameras on the market.”

During installation, the camera’s inner ball can be adjusted and then locked into position by tightening the outer bezel to achieve the desired view. The camera’s waterproof, stainless-steel case is rated for a wide range of operating temperatures. It measures 3 inches (80mm) in diameter and 1 inch (28mm) above the mounting face, so it’s small enough to be used in cramped locations.

Features include built-in IR LED illuminators, which provide a 33-foot range of night vision. The 1.8 mm wide-angle lens comes standard, with 3.6 mm and 2.8 mm lens options available.

GOST, which makes security and monitoring systems, has added a velocity tracking function to its Nav-Tracker IDP Series satellite tracking system.

The new feature incorporates an accelerometer into the antenna, letting users set a reporting interval when the boat is moving faster than a certain speed. This reporting interval begins when the boat is in use, even if the geofence system is disarmed.

The feature, when enabled from the GOST Specter website, will automatically adjust the frequency of reports to two, five, 15 or 30 minutes, or one, two, four, eight, 12 or 24 hours whenever the boat is going faster than 2 knots.

“While our systems’ primary goal has always been to track down stolen boats and alert the customer when an armed boat moves, our clients also use our systems for many other reasons, such as knowing the boat is close to its destination while doing a crossing or if loved ones are on their way back in from a day of fishing offshore,” Brian Kane, chief technology officer for GOST, stated in a press release. “This new feature adds another layer of ingenuity, removing any potential user error by automatically tracking, on defined levels, when the boat is in use.”

GOST has introduced new antennas as well as a new vessel-tracking interface.

The GOST IDP series antennas—IDP stands for Inmarsat Data Pro—reportedly allow for better messaging capability, lower power consumption and enhanced speed. They also provide global coverage with the exception of Earth’s poles.

The antennas are controlled through the new GOST Specter tracking interface. It’s a website that works on mobile and desktop browsers, and that lets users access geofence controls, arming and disarming capabilities, and real-time vessel tracking. Specter retains a 90-day tracking history and can monitor multiple vessels for fleet management.

Global Ocean Security Technologies (GOST) says the world’s largest center console, the HCB Estrella, now has Apparition GOST Watch HD XVR and Nav-Tracker systems providing security, surveillance and tracking capabilities.

Since 2009, the speed record for recovering a stolen boat has stood at 54 minutes, according to Global Ocean Security Technologies.

The company’s Nav-Tracker 1.0 system just beat that time, aiding in the recovery of a stolen 34-foot Regulator inside of 49 minutes.

GOST says thieves stole the boat — named, ironically, Can’t Touch This — on May 13 in South Florida. The GOST system went into alert mode when the boat breached its digital geofence. The owner notified the authorities, and the U.S. Coast Guard found the boat abandoned in Miami Beach.

“We have trusted GOST to track our boats since 2011 and am happy to report that the system performed exactly to specification, giving us immediate geofence alerts,” Capt. JD Ducanes stated in a press release. “We contacted USCG Miami, who had assets in the area and responded quickly, ensuring our vessel was returned safely.”

What information does the GOST system send to owners? Vessel name, latitude, longitude, and speed and heading, all via text message and email.

The Apparition security-monitoring and tracking system from Global Ocean Security Technologies (GOST) has a user-friendly touchscreen. It supports up to 192 sensors and 16 touchscreen keypads (available in 5- and 7-inch screens) that can be put on multiple decks. The Apparition system works with GOST’s proprietary sensors (price upon request), and a free app pushes notifications to an owner’s or captain’s smartphone.

Simrad ‘s GO7 XSR (from $649) and GO12 XSE (from $2,149) are touchscreen-enabled, and they support graphically driven user interfaces and split-screen views. The plotters are compatible with Simrad Broadband 3G/4G and Halo radar systems, as well as NMEA 2000 data backbones, plus they have internal sounders. When paired with Halo radars, the plotters allow them to perform Doppler processing.

Lowrance ‘s FishHunter Pro and FishHunter 3D wireless, castable transducers share sonar imagery with a smartphone via Wi-Fi, without a cellular or internet connection. The FishHunter Pro ($149) reaches depths of 150 feet over three different sonar frequencies and talks to smartphones from 160 feet, while the FishHunter 3D ($199) has five tri-frequency transducers that can ping to 160 feet while stretching 200 feet to a smartphone.

GOST tracker app

Global Ocean Security Technologies has released the GOST Tracker App. It lets yacht owners link to vessel data from Nav-Tracker and other GOST tracking systems via smartphone or tablet, by way of a secure interface.

Once logged into the system, yacht owners and captains can remotely monitor and control the onboard devices for either a single yacht or a fleet of yachts. The GOST Tracker App displays a map with icons showing each yacht’s position, and clicking on each yacht’s icon brings up details including lat/lon, speed and heading.

The GOST Tracker App also lets yacht owners remotely arm or disarm a boat’s geo-fence, and the app will send an immediate notification if the yacht moves or if an alarm from a full GOST onboard system is tripped.

GOST used the recent Seattle Boat Show to display its new Nav-Tracker 3.0 SM, an update to previous Nav-Tracker systems that alerts owners via text or email when onboard sensors trip or a geo-fence is breached.

The Nav-Tracker 3.0 SM has a new interface unit that lets the system integrate with hardwired sensors, so it can trigger a siren and/or strobe in addition to existing features. The system can be controlled remotely via the GOST Nav-Tracker website, which can update a yacht’s speed, heading, latitude and longitude every two to 30 minutes.

“Our Nav-Tracker 3.0 SM adds new functionality to our established line of vessel-monitoring and surveillance systems,” GOST CEO Jay Keenan stated in a press release.
