As the summer yacht charter season nears its peak, several popular charter fleets have added yachts in destinations all around the world.

In the Bahamas, Fraser just welcomed the 107-foot Burger Silver Seas. It’s a 1998 build that most recently was refitted in 2022, and that will base in the Bahamas all year round. Accommodations are for eight guests in four staterooms that can be set up for families or groups of couples. This yacht charters with an Intrepid tender for watersports fun.

Up in New England, Edmiston has welcomed 168-foot Feadship Acta to the charter fleet. Acta is a 2007 build that accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms. Equipment includes Quantum zero-speed stabilizers for guest comfort at anchor, and the yacht has a wheelchair-accessible elevator and side deck. The master stateroom is on the bridge deck with expansive views.

For charter clients seeking more exotic locales, IYC has just added the 131-foot Westport Rule No. 1 to its fleet, with inquiries being accepted through September 2025 for Panama, Mexico and Costa Rica. Rule No. 1 is a 2011 build that most recently was refitted in 2023, with accommodations for 12 guests in five staterooms. This yacht charters with a 37-foot Freeman tender for fishing, and has toys that include an inflatable slide.

The yacht accommodates eight guests in four staterooms. Amenities and crew services include a hot tub, a fitness trainer, a masseuse, a yoga instructor, and various water toys.

In Croatia and the West Mediterranean, the 137-foot Kingship Ocean’s Seven has joined the Fraser fleet. This is a 2012 build that was most recently refitted this year. Interiors on the yacht are by Vripack, with five staterooms for 10 guests. The master spans the full beam on the main deck and has a king-size berth.

Are there any options being advertised for scuba diving? Indeed, Edmiston says the 154-foot Feadship Lady Victoria is still accepting inquiries this summer in the Bahamas, and is offering scuba diving right from the yacht. Accommodations are for 12 guests in six staterooms, with a master that has its own deck and a VIP on the main deck. The swim platform can be extended and raised for diving, or submerged for guests who want to step right into the sea.

Feadship Delivers “Alvia” https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/feadship-delivers-alvia/ Fri, 24 May 2024 15:00:14 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=64263 Delivery of the 250-foot motoryacht came just days before the yard launched the hydrogen-powered, 390-foot Project 821.

Feadship has delivered the nearly 250-foot superyacht Alvia from the Royal Van Lent shipyard in Amsterdam.

The team at Burgess announced the news after being involved throughout the sales and construction timeline. Burgess brokers guided the owner through the purchase process in 2019; its technical services team managed the build, collaborating with the owner’s representatives; its crew services team staffed the vessel; and its yacht management team is now overseeing the yacht’s operations.

Some of the Alvia‘s features include a main-deck pool, a sports court on the foredeck and an elevator. Courtesy Feadship

“We are delighted to have worked with such an experienced and professional owner’s team to help deliver this very special yacht,” Nathan Durley-Boot, marine engineer and project manager, Burgess Technical Services, stated in a press release.

Alvia, which was delivered at the end of April, was known as Project Hanami during the construction process. The code name referred to the Japanese festival of the cherry blossom.

Exteriors are by the British studio RWD, which worked with Susan Young Interiors on the project. Standout features include a main-deck pool, a sports court on the foredeck, folding balconies on the owners’ deck, an elevator that runs from the main deck to the bridge deck, a gym and spa area, and interactive bridge deck lighting,

Gross tonnage is 2,265, creating what Burgess describes as “a feeling of space while on board.” The yacht has a trans-Atlantic range of 5,500 nautical miles, which is more than enough for going back and forth between the expected cruising grounds in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

Feadship Project 821
Project 821 measures an eye-popping 390 feet length overall and will be the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht. Courtesy Feadship

Feadship also just launched a hydrogen-powered superyacht: In early May, Feadship’s Amsterdam shipyard launched Project 821, the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht. At 390 feet long, Project 821 is also the largest motoryacht ever launched in The Netherlands in terms of volume.

The emissions-free Project 821 is designed by RWD with owner representation by Edmiston. While there are hydrogen fuel cell-powered cars, and while fuel cells have been used as the primary source of electrical power on human spaceflight for more than six decades, there were no maritime regulations for hydrogen storage and fuel-cell systems on a yacht of this nature. Feadship and Edmiston worked with Lloyd’s Register to develop equipment, protocols and safety regulations.

One of the biggest challenges was storing compressed liquid hydrogen belowdecks. Safe storage requires a double-walled cryogenic tank in a dedicated room. According to Feadship, it takes eight to 10 times more space to store hydrogen than the energy equivalent in diesel fuel.

Project 821 is for sale through Edmiston.

Take the next step: details about both projects are available at feadship.nl

Want to Charter in Northern Europe? https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/cruising-and-chartering/feadship-samadhi-northern-europe-charter/ Thu, 18 Jan 2024 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=61798 The 200-foot Feadship Samadhi is undergoing a refit ahead of the summer season.

Feadship Samadhi
While most charter yachts head to the Mediterranean during the summer, Samadhi will be based in London and focus on trips to Northern Europe. Courtesy Edmiston

Northern Europe is not a destination that pops up very often in charter-yacht promotions. Most of the superyachts that accept charter inquiries in that part of the world base in the West and East Mediterranean, offering itineraries that focus on the beaches and high life all along the French and Italian rivieras, the Croatian coastline and the Greek Isles.

The owner and crew aboard the 200-foot Feadship Samadhi have a plan to do things differently. Through the yacht’s management company, Edmiston, charter availability for this summer was just announced for bookings in Northern Europe, starting toward the end of July.

Why toward the end of July? Because right now, Samadhi is in the shipyard for a substantial refit that’s expected to be completed by that time. This yacht, which launched in 2006, is going to come out of the yard with a 13-foot-long heated swimming pool on the main deck aft, a wholly refitted sky lounge with more creature comforts for guests, and a private spa with a sauna, cold plunge pool, massage room and hair salon. (That sauna sounds perfect for colder-climate charters in certain parts of Northern Europe.)

And, those guest areas will be in addition to existing spaces such as the sundeck, which has a gymnasium, a bar, loungers, a raised hot tub and a barbecue. Guests also have access to two tenders for watersports fun, along with Seabobs, personal watercraft, Fliteboards, foiling boards, wakeboards, standup paddleboards, kayaks, inflatables, and snorkeling and diving gear.

Accommodations aboard Samadhi are for 12 guests in six staterooms, one of which has bunks that are ideal for the kids, a nanny or staff. All of the guest staterooms are belowdecks, while the master stateroom is forward on the main deck with a shower and a tub, a sauna, a walk-in closet and a private office.

Samadhi charters with 16 crew who have experience in expeditions and wildlife charters, making them a good match for lots of locations around Northern Europe.

The refit work is being done back at the original shipyard, Feadship, which is located in Holland. It’s expected to be completed on July 12, after which Samadhi will reposition to London ahead of offering charters in broader Northern Europe.

What’s the lowest weekly base rate for a charter aboard Samadhi? It’s about $416,500, with fluctuations depending on the exchange rate between the US dollar and the euro. The high-season charter rate is about $466,000.

Never Enough is a 1992 build that was most recently refitted in 2019. The yacht accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms, and it charters with seven crew.

A 33-foot Boston Whaler tender that’s fully rigged for fishing is part of the water-sports package, which also includes a pair of personal watercraft, Seabobs, wakeboards, water skis, tow toys and snorkeling gear. The yacht encourages family charters and stocks watertoys that are sized for kids as well as for adults.

What else is new at RJC Yachts? The company recently acquired Churchill Yacht Partners, which was founded in 2004 with a focus on crewed yacht charter. Longtime charter broker Maggie Vale will move from Churchill to the RJC team.

The NFL’s Favorite Boats https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/nfl-favorite-yachts/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 17:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60905 While some NFL players may own a midsize motoryacht, it’s the teams’ owners who lay claim to the biggest megayachts around.

The post The NFL’s Favorite Boats appeared first on Yachting.

]]>
Plenty has been written about retired (really, this time) NFL quarterback Tom Brady’s passion for boating. He reportedly owned a Wajer 55S before upgrading to a Wajer 77, a sweet reward after earning what’s estimated to be a net worth of at least $300 million.

But when it comes to the really big boats—the megayachts, superyachts and gigayachts—it’s the NFL team owners who have the goods. Sure, there’s an occasional story in the news about an NFL player spending a day on the water, but the people making a real splash on the docks are the ones who own the teams.

Article At-A-Glance

  • NFL players, such as Tom Brady, have good-size boats, but team owners have big yachts.
  • Several NFL team owners have sizable, pedigree European shipyard builds.
  • You’d never know the owners based on the yacht names.
  • The yachts cruise all over the world, including the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

European Shipyards that NFL Owners Choose

Europe has always been seen as the place to buy a pedigree superyacht, and owners of NFL teams naturally gravitate toward the best. They’ve commissioned yachts from Oceanco, Lürssen, Feadship and Royal Hakvoort.

Jerry Jones’ Bravo Eugenia

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones owns Bravo Eugenia, a 357-foot Oceanco that was delivered in late 2018. Forbes reported that, during the pandemic, Jones handled the NFL draft from on board—in a luxurious version of social-distancing. The yacht itself is noteworthy for its hybrid propulsion as well as its multiple helipads, which give Jones the ability to land on board pretty much anywhere in the world.

Shahid Khan’s Kismet

In 2014, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan took delivery of the 312-foot Lürssen Kismet. It’s currently listed for sale on the Moran Yacht & Ship website at an asking price of about $160 million, with what the brokerage house calls a “decadent interior” by Reymond Langton Design. Accommodations are for 16 guests, with quarters for 28 crew. The yacht has a helipad, a spa, a swimming pool and an outdoor fireplace—a rare find aboard any yacht of any size.

American Shipyards that NFL Owners Choose

Some NFL owners skip the European shipyards (and their years-long waiting lists) altogether and go with American builds instead. These yachts are new or refitted after being purchased from previous owners, showing that it’s possible to get exactly what you want in a yacht even if you don’t choose the process of custom construction.

Steve Bisciotti’s Winning Drive

Baltimore Ravens majority owner Steve Bisciotti reportedly also owns Winning Drive, a Westport 130 that left the yard in 2012. This is one of the most popular American-model yachts ever, with the series in build since way back in 2000 and the company still offering new versions today. The 10-guest, seven-crew Westport 130 is also a popular model on the charter market, if anyone wants to book a different hull to get a feel for life on board Bisciotti style.

Stan Kroenke’s Aquila

This billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Rams (and numerous other sports teams) reportedly also owns Aquila, a 280-foot Derecktor that started life on the water in 2010 as Cakewalk—the largest private motoryacht ever built in the United States. The yacht underwent a yearlong refit at Pendennis and is currently available for charter through Burgess at a lowest weekly base rate of $945,000. Guests have full access to the onboard elevator, cinema room, spa and massage areas, and bridge-deck fire pit.

Tom Brady’s Boat

By comparison with these behemoths, Brady’s Wajer 77 seems small—but it’s actually the largest model in the builder’s line. It’s built for speed and silence, with a top speed of 37 knots and extensive use of insulation to dampen onboard noise. Smaller models from Wajer give all kinds of boat owners a chance to sample the kind of fun that Brady is having out on the water.

Wajer 38

The Wajer 38 is the entry-level model in the builder’s lineup, with 45 knots of speed (yes, it can outrun Tom Brady’s boat). The 300-nautical-mile range means this boat is well-suited for weekend getaways, and the fact that the boat is packed with seating and sun pads mean owners can bring plenty of friends along for the ride. Vripack in the Netherlands—also a superyacht designer—handled naval architecture, which explains the upscale feel.

Wajer 38

Wajer 55S

This is the model that Tom Brady had before he upgraded to the builder’s larger flagship. The 55S is still in production today. It’s a 38-knot boat with a 400-nautical-mile range and a center-console design that allows great walkaround space for fishing and other water sports. Belowdecks, there’s accommodations for as many as four people, if owners want to spend the night on the hook. For the hull, owners can choose among a wide variety of colors, ranging from more subtle blacks and whites to high-octane yellows and pinks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do more NFL team owners than NFL players own superyachts?

Generally speaking, superyacht owners are billionaires, while even the most successful NFL players tend to be multimillionaires.

Do any NFL team owners have yachts bigger than a football field?

A football field between the goal lines is 100 yards, or 300 feet. That means several NFL team owners have yachts that would be too long to fit inside their own stadiums.

Do NFL team owners keep their yachts near NFL stadiums?

Not usually. Dallas Cowboys owners Jerry Jones’ yacht, for instance, has been spotted everywhere from Vancouver to London.

Do NFL team owners with yachts also have other business interests?

Yes. Shahid Khan, who owns the Jacksonville Jaguars, made his fortune with Flex-N-Gate, which makes bumpers for vehicles. Steve Bisciotti, who owns the Baltimore Ravens, also owns staffing, recruiting and talent-management companies.

Do any NFL stadiums have dockage for yachts?

Not directly at the stadium, but there’s a marina adjacent to Soldier Field, where the Chicago Bears play, and boaters heading to Cleveland Browns games can tie up at the nearby Rock and Dock Marina at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
