Benetti Yachts in Italy is revealing details about the 134-foot Kahala. It’s a fiberglass yacht with exteriors by RWD, naval architecture by PLANA and Azimut-Benetti, and interiors in collaboration with New York-based Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture.

Kahala’s primary exterior feature is the Oasis Deck aft. This section of the yacht has side wings that open the beach area into a nearly 970-square-foot terrace at water level. A nearly 1,500-gallon infinity pool is here—Benetti calls it “rare for a yacht this size”—and is heated with a massage function.

Exterior styling is inspired by the automotive industry, with a plumb bow, vertical windscreen and long, glazed surfaces with silver frames.

Inside, the team from Bonetti/Kozerski included a series of pieces from the 1950s to the 1970s. The idea is that they have an enduring elegance and simplicity that never go out of fashion. The firm also designed the rug in the main-deck salon, an area that has extensive glazing for natural light along with a custom table that seats 10 people for dining.

Between the salon and the owner’s stateroom on the main deck is a sculpture that the owner commissioned from a Hawaiian artist, as a symbol of the owner’s deep ties with the state.

Up one level, the wheelhouse has full-height glazing and seating for six people. Instead of a traditional helm station with a wheel, this yacht has what Benetti calls a “light bridge console featuring a futuristic design developed by Benetti and Fincantieri.” The carbon-fiber console has integrated software and controls laid out on two panels, like extra armrests for the captain’s chair. Racks for the navigation equipment are in an air-conditioned compartment abaft the wheelhouse to starboard, hidden by panels.

Also on this deck is the skylounge, which has a bar as well as a breakfast table. The skylounge connects to an outdoor space with custom sun pads that are similar to the ones installed above on the sundeck.

Belowdecks, there are four guest staterooms. Along with the main-deck master, they allow for a total complement of 10 guests. There are also four cabins for eight crew, as well as a captain’s cabin.

For heading ashore, the yacht has a side garage that can house a 20-foot tender. There’s a separate room for stowing toys near the beach area aft.

Let’s talk performance: According to Benetti Yachts, Kahala has two MAN V-12 engines that allow for a top hop of 17 knots, with transatlantic range at a speed of 11 knots.

Five notable yachts just became available for charter in the West Mediterranean, with plenty of time left to book itineraries before the current season is over.

First up is Zazou, a 213-foot Benetti that launched in 2021. It’s new to the charter fleet at Y.CO, with plans to base in the South of France and Corsica. This is the first time that Zazou is being opened for charters, with availability beginning mid-August.

“Ideal for families, she is elegant and sophisticated thanks to her stunning interior,” Sioned Williams of Y.CO Charter Management stated in a press release. Notable features include a gymnasium, treatment room, outdoor cinema and beach club. Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms.

Dyna, a 2024 B.Now 50m Oasis model, has a main-deck pool, a cinema, a spa and a master stateroom with a private balcony. It accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms. It’s available for September and October charters in the West Mediterranean. Courtesy Y.CO

Y.CO also just welcomed the new-for-2024 Benetti Dyna to the charter fleet in the Mediterranean. Dates are available in September and October.

Accommodations aboard Dyna are for 12 guests in six staterooms. Amenities include a main-deck pool, a cinema, a spa and a master stateroom with a private balcony.

Dyna is a particularly fine example of the B.Now 50m Oasis model,” Yasmine Naitijja of Y.CO Charter Management stated in a press release. “No expense has been spared in the finishes throughout. The spa area is a real onboard highlight, as is the large main-deck pool, while the stylish Novamarine Black Shiver chase boat offers enhanced exploration.”

Azimut Magellano 30

Also now available in the West Mediterranean is Alma III, a 97-foot Azimut that was just delivered to the owners from the shipyard in June. It’s part of the Fraser charter fleet and will have availability in August from Sardinia.

According to the Fraser team, Alma III is the only Azimut Magellano 30 currently on the charter market. Exterior design is by Ken Freivokh, and accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms. The master is full beam on the main deck.

82-foot Maiora El Pecado
The 82-foot Maiora El Pecado, in IYC’s Greek fleet, accommodates nine guests in four staterooms and has at-anchor stabilizers. Courtesy IYC

In the IYC charter fleet in Greece, guests can book the 82-foot Maiora El Pecado, which became available earlier this summer. The yacht is a 2014 build that IYC’s team says is in “impeccable condition” with accommodations for as many as nine guests in four staterooms.

Notable features and equipment on El Pecado include low fuel consumption and at-anchor stabilizers for guest comfort.

107-foot Custom Line
My Mistake, a 107-foot Custom Line yacht, is child-friendly, accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms and has a reported top speed of 26 knots. Courtesy IYC

Also in Greece with IYC is the 107-foot Custom Line My Mistake, a 2023 build that accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms. The IYC team notes that this yacht has a child-friendly setup, meaning it is a good choice for bookings with families.

Top speed aboard My Mistake is reportedly 26 knots, which should make short work of cruising between the Greek Isles while leaving more time for fun at anchor and in harbors.

When does the Mediterranean yacht-charter season end? The high season is over at the end of August, but with nice weather, the cruising in some parts of the region can be terrific well into October.

Resilience

Edmiston has released a list of yachts that are still accepting inquiries for charter at the Monaco Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place May 23-26.

An important part of many charters at this event is the ability to host viewing and other parties for spectators on board. As such, charter clients should expect to incur additional costs beyond typical weekly base rates and expenses. Some yachts require a security deposit, for instance, or additional temporary crew to be brought on board to help with catering and service.

With that said, the 212-foot ISA Resilience can put on quite a show. It has the ability to host quayside events for as many as 110 guests. This 2021 build also has overnight accommodations for 12 guests with 16 crew. The master stateroom has fold-down balconies, and the VIP is on the upper deck with a private terrace.

Wayfinder

Also available is the 224-foot Astilleros Armon power catamaran Wayfinder, which can host quayside events for as many as 200 people. This 2021 build has overnight accommodations for 12 guests, and typically charters with 19 or 20 crew. Key features include a pickleball court, basketball hoop and gymnasium with various machines and equipment.

Jaguar

Yet another option for Monaco Grand Prix charters is the 184-foot Benetti Jaguar, which can host quayside events for as many as 80 guests. Jaguar is a 2005 build that most recently was refitted in 2023. Its overnight accommodations are for 12 guests, with a usual crew complement of 12. The master stateroom spans the yacht’s full beam, and the VIP is on the upper deck.

Ventum Maris
The 216-foot Ventum Maris can host events for up to 50 people. The yacht has a glass elevator that serves all decks as well as a cinema projector for showing movies on the sundeck. Courtesy Edmiston

Edmiston also is promoting the 216-foot Amels Ventum Maris for the Monaco Grand Prix, with the ability to host quayside events for as many as 50 guests. Ventum Maris is a 2011 build that most recently was refitted in 2019. Its overnight accommodations are for 12 guests in their choice of seven staterooms, two of which can be set up with double or twin berths. This yacht has a glass elevator that serves all decks, and a cinema projector up on the sundeck for movie nights.

Allegria II
For those seeking a more intimate experience, there is the 92-foot Allegria II. The 2020 Ferretti accommodates up to 20 guests for dockside events. Courtesy Edmiston

Want a yacht for the Monaco Grand Prix that’s more midrange? Edmiston is offering the 92-foot Ferretti Alegria II, which can welcome as many as 20 guests for quayside events. It’s a 2020 build that has a sundeck bar and grill for entertaining friends with a good view of the action all around.

Biofuel is now a reality for yachts built by Azimut-Benetti Group, which is working with Eni Sustainable Mobility to fill yacht fuel tanks with HVOlution. It’s a biofuel made from hydrogenated vegetable oil that can reduce emissions up to 90 percent, the builder says (and whose raw materials do not compete with the food chain).

Azimut-Benetti is starting by using the biofuel for technical testing on its yachts and by allowing owners to take delivery of new yachts with biofuel in the tanks. The first yacht used to promote the partnership with Eni Sustainable Mobility was an Azimut Magellano 60 this past June.

Going forward, Azimut-Benetti plans to create refueling sites for owners of its yachts. The first of those sites is expected to be in Italy, where Azimut-Benetti is based.

Eni Sustainable Mobility: A New Chapter in Fuel

Italy-based Eni has been around since 1953. It’s a company with global operations focused on natural gas, oil, electricity and renewable fuels. The wholly owned Eni Sustainable Mobility company began operations in January with a focus on organic fuels, biomethane, electric recharging and similar-minded projects. The HVOlution biofuel that Azimut-Benetti is now using is just one of the company’s alternative-fuel offerings; it also provides hydrogen, liquefied natural gas and other choices.

Benetti Yachts in Italy has announced a new fiberglass flagship in its Class Range: the 144-foot 44M.

The Benetti Class 44M has interiors and exteriors by Giorgio Maria Cassetta. The yard says it focused on using sustainable materials in the design, including wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

“We worked on an infinite number of details, and, as a result, this boat’s interiors are something absolutely new compared with what we’re used to seeing on a yacht this size,” Cassetta stated in a press release. “All these details immediately convey an appealing sense of elegance, but also reveal the wonder of human skill and craftsmanship. Benetti Class 44M is an incredibly complex and sophisticated place, but one that has a truly amazing ability to welcome people in.”

Accommodations include a full-beam master stateroom forward on the main deck and four guest staterooms belowdecks. Crew quarters are also belowdecks.

Power will be twin 1,400 hp MANs that are expected to provide a top speed of 15 knots and a range of 4,100 nautical miles at 11 knots.

Listen up: Benetti says it focused on soundproofing with the Class 44M, using floating floors and bulkheads as well as flexible transmission couplings.

Benetti’s Superyacht Calex Reviewed https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/benetti-calex-reviewed/ Fri, 08 Sep 2023 18:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60877 The fully custom 220-foot Calex reflects the vision of an owner with a clear directive-fun and comfort for everyone.

The post Benetti’s Superyacht Calex Reviewed appeared first on Yachting.

Benetti Calex
Calex’s owner moved up from a 160-foot semicustom build to this full-custom superyacht. Courtesy Benetti

It’s a long way to go from California to Italy just to build a boat. Then again, Calex, delivered last year by Benetti, is a 220-foot fully custom build—60 feet larger than its owner’s previous superyacht, which was semicustom. It’s also an example of the degree to which an experienced owner will go to ensure the comfort of those accompanying him: not just family and friends, but also crew.

While a larger yacht naturally affords more indoor and outdoor space, this California resident wanted an abundance of both, prioritizing privacy and well-being.

Benetti Calex lounge
The owner chose maple and American walnut to create a warm, relaxing interior. Courtesy Benetti

Arguably the best example of this is the owner’s suite, which, in combination with a dedicated alfresco area, is more like a penthouse apartment. Giorgio Cassetta and his team at Cassetta Yacht Designers, which has styled numerous Benettis, penned 1,772 square feet on the upper deck for this, from amidships forward. The owner’s suite includes the master stateroom, an office, a double bath and a walk-in closet. Since the stateroom faces sole-to-ceiling glass forward, 180 degrees of changing views welcomes the owner each morning. The alfresco lounge lets the owner relax in privacy. Accessible from the suite via two curved sliding doors, the lounge has chaises, chairs and a gas fireplace. And, the raised foredeck forward can be the owner’s touch-and-go helipad.

Benetti Calex interior
Calex offers unobstructed ocean views from inside or outside. Courtesy Benetti

Unwinding in the company of friends and family was also important in commissioning the yacht, whose beach club is one of the more cleverly private places aboard Calex. Beach clubs have become bigger indoor-outdoor areas, especially through the use of fold-down platforms. They enhance the feeling of having a large lounge atop the sea, but they present a problem when owners and guests want seclusion. So with Calex, a single gull-wing door fully aft swings up to yield access. The beach club is still sizable, in part thanks to the yacht’s 35-foot beam. Guests can watch sports on the TV, enjoy drinks from the bar and use the hammam. To take a dip, they can step out onto the swim platform and use the flip-down swim ladder. Boarding water toys is just as simple from the platform.

And boy, does Calex have toys—especially ones that will help guests burn calories. Stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, water skis, electric surfboards, electric foiling boards, a wakeboard and a surfboard are all available. Friends and family craving a little more speed can step aboard two personal watercraft capable of 65 mph. If the toys aren’t enough exercise, gym equipment and a yoga space are on the sun deck, with a nearby hot tub for a post-workout muscle soak.

Benetti Calex elevator
The glass elevator transits all five decks. Courtesy Benetti

All of the time and attention put into creating these areas would be for naught if the crew had subpar quarters. Time and time again, well-planned crew’s quarters contribute to stronger staff retention and a better yacht-ownership experience. Sixteen hands, led by Capt. Eddie Cooney, handle operations aboard Calex. While no one will blink to learn that Cooney’s cabin is on the bridge deck, near the wheelhouse and the ship’s office, they’ll definitely do a double take to see its design, along with that of the quarters for the rest of the crew belowdecks.

According to the Benetti Style Department, the owner had a singular focus for their area from the start of planning. The furnishings and decorative materials are similar to those in the two main-deck VIP staterooms and four guest staterooms (two doubles and two convertible twins) on the lower deck. Finally, and wisely, dumbwaiters connect the main-deck galley to the upper decks’ lounging spaces inside and out.

Benetti Calex stateroom

Calex also features sculptures and art pieces the owner has picked up amid his travels. The yacht casts a comforting spell, inviting guests to be as social as they wish throughout the five enclosed decks, as well as outside on the terrace-like areas and fully open sun deck. Movable deck furnishings make it easy to go from big, garrulous groups to cozier conversations. Simultaneously, Calex caters to more secluded downtime, especially for its owner. Ultimately, Calex is built for different needs, including those of the crew.

It’s a long way to go from California to Italy to get all of this. But, especially for this owner, it was worth it.

Well(ness) Wishes

As much as the owner set aside space for health and wellness, he wanted the interior ambience of Calex to convey a sense of well-being too. Ivory-toned furnishings and warm woods, such as maple and American walnut, create a serene atmosphere, along with a dose of sophistication. The decor is by the Benetti Style Department and the owner’s team.

Engine Emissions

Calex is Benetti’s first fully custom yacht in this size range to comply with Tier III regulations. Tier III is an International Maritime Organization standard that reduces nitrous-oxide emissions by about 70 percent compared with prior regulations. Calex has a scrubbing system for exhaust gas from the main engines and gensets.

Benetti Yachts in Italy has sold Hull No. 1 of the B.Now 60M with the Oasis Deck. It’s a nearly 197-foot motoryacht whose delivery to the owners is expected to take place in 2027.

The brokerage company SuperYachtsMonaco collaborated with Benetti on closing the deal.

Key features aboard the B.Now 60M include a main deck that spans nearly 2,200 square feet, with about 1,400 square feet of that space devoted to the beach area. Exterior styling is by RWD in the United Kingdom, with interiors by the Benetti Interior Style Department.

“This is an extremely satisfying period, as the 60M with Oasis Deck steers our owners towards a new way to experience the sea and completes the B.Now family, which now vaunts models from 50 to 72 meters,” Benetti Chief Commercial Officer Sebastiano Fanizza stated in a press release.

How many lines of yachts does Benetti offer? Six. In addition to B.Now, there’s also B.Yond, Class, Oasis, B.Century and Custom.
