The Prestige 460S is an express cruiser that is equally suited for dayboating and family cruising. Gilman Yachts has Lucky One, a 2020 Prestige 460S, listed with a $739,000 asking price. The nearly 47-foot cruiser has a two-stateroom layout and an array of entertainment-ready amenities.

Like other Prestige craft, this express cruiser was penned by longtime Prestige collaborator Garroni Design with engineering by JP Concepts.

Lucky One has the grey oak woodwork throughout the salon. When you combine this wood tone with the natural light via nearly 360 degrees of glass, plus neutral-tone upholstery, the result is a modern, yet warm interior vibe. Lucky One has the aft-galley layout, illustrating its entertainment-friendly layout. Lounge seating is amidships with a sofa to starboard abaft the helm station and a U-shaped settee to port that doubles as interior dining with a fixed hi-low table in the middle.

For Sale: 2021 Prestige X70 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/brokerage/prestige-x70-infinity-for-sale/ Tue, 11 Jun 2024 17:00:06 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=64564 The nearly 30-knot, low-hour Prestige X70 Infinity is asking $3.29 million.

The post For Sale: 2021 Prestige X70 appeared first on Yachting.

Prestige X70 Infinity
Infinity, a 2021 Prestige X70, has 29-knot speed and only 735 hours on its 725 hp, Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels. Courtesy Galati Yacht Sales

“It all starts with the reverse-raked house window, a defining trait of the Prestige Yachts X70′s look—an aesthetic from the pen of Italy-based Garroni Design—and one that separates this yacht from its siblings in the builder’s F-line and S-line. The yacht’s cut-down bulwarks amidships and nearly sole-to-ceiling glass in the house sides work with the hullside glass to create a visually lower profile too,” Yachting previously reported.

Infinity, a 2021 Prestige X70, was built for entertaining.

The cockpit, foredeck and flybridge are spacious with sunpads and sunshades. Infinity can easily be handled by an owner-operator, but has room for two crew. A multitude of guests can comfortably be entertained on a daytime jaunt down the coastline, and the yacht accommodates eight guests for extended cruising. Infinity is for sale at $3.299 million.

Infinity is powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesel engines with a combined horsepower of 1,470 hp, which will get the yacht to top speed of 29 knots. Dial it back a 20-knot cruise speed and range around 351 nautical miles.

Step onto Infinity’s swim platform, open up the “beach club” with sunpads and cup holders, lower the teak swim platform down into the water a few inches and enjoy a few beverages while the kids have a swim. The hydraulic swim platform with the “beach club” is one of the yacht’s highlights and my favorite place to relax. A tender can also be stowed on the swim platform, but the tender is not included in the sale.

Four staterooms accommodate up to eight guests for extended voyages. There’s also room for two crew. Courtesy Galati Yacht Sales

A few steps up from the swim platform is Infinity’s spacious cockpit, which is partially shaded by the flybridge overhang and an optional sunshade. Relax on a set of sofas that are located to port and starboard, or on a centerline sunpad with backrests that can be reconfigured for different seating positions. Enjoy an alfresco dinner at the dinette before climbing up to the flybridge for an evening cruise. The cockpit ice maker is a plus for entertaining guests in the cockpit and at the beach club/swim platform.

Infinity has steps to port and starboard that lead from the cockpit to the flybridge. The flybridge provides another great area for guests to increase their tan while enjoying the ocean breeze with a great view. Relax in a few lounge chairs on the aft deck, dinette with adjacent wet bar or at the settee to starboard across from the helm. Infinity’s flybridge is partially covered with a hardtop with an electric sunroof, giving guests the option of shade or sun. Cook a few burgers for lunch on the electric grill before stepping down to the foredeck for a little more privacy. Infinity’s teak foredeck might be the best spot to step away from a noisy quay. Relax in the sun on lounge mattresses and cushions by Paola Lenti or dial it back a little and bring out the sunshade for an afternoon siesta.

The flybridge helm is located on the port side and the captain has an uninterrupted 360-degree view around the yacht. Two cushioned carbon fiber seats sit at the helm with engine throttles, joystick controls, cup holder and stowage compartments within arms reach. Some of the technology onboard includes:

  • Seakeeper SK18
  • Extra IPS joystick in cockpit and starboard aft flybridge
  • Garmin open-array radar
  • Upgraded Raymarine Realvision 3D Sonar
  • Raymarine 170S Wind Instrument w/ Rot Sensor
  • IPS Nibral twin props
  • Single Lever, Cruise Control, Trim Computer and Low Speed functions
  • Electronic power-steering
  • Autopilot
  • Bow thruster 24V dual prop (240 kgf/529 Ibs.)
  • Electric trim tabs

Two sliding glass doors separate the cockpit from the salon. Opening these sliding glass doors creates an open air, flow-through conversation environment from the cockpit to the main deck helm. The salon and galley are full beam and the light-colored interior glows in the natural light that flows in from the electrically opening windows. Guests can relax on two custom sofas with tables to port and starboard, and catch a game on the fold down 55-inch flat-screen TV mounted above the galley or the 65-inch flat-screen on the starboard side of the salon. Want to dine inside? The cockpit dinette can be moved and set up inside the salon for a formal dinner.

The galley is located forward the salon on the starboard side, but is open to the salon and helm. Counter space is limited, but the custom cabinetry is spectacular, giving the owners the ability to create meals large and small. A full-sized refrigerator provides plenty of room to stow cold goods, and dry goods can be stowed in cabinets and drawers. Galley amenities include:

  • Stainless-steel sink
  • Mixing tap
  • Miele appliances (blower fan, microwave oven, dishwasher and, fridge/freezer)
  • Miela 3-burner induction cooktop
  • Cordless vacuum cleaner and charging station
  • Galley worktop in Laminam
  • Miele fridge (331L / 87 US Gal)
  • Miele freezer (115L / 30 US Gal)
  • Storage drawers and cabinets
  • Natural hardwood oak sole

After a long day on the water, guests can choose a fine bottle of wine from the wine chiller and retire belowdecks to one of four staterooms. Down a few steps to port is the master stateroom, which is full-beam with an ensuite head. It has custom, satin-finish walnut cabinetry, a port side sofa, dressing table with mirror, custom vanity and a king-sized berth. Personal items can be stowed in the very spacious port side walk-in closet with shelves. The VIP stateroom is full-beam king-sized berth with an ensuite head. Bedside table and large closets with shelves provide plenty of room for stowage granting guests an extremely cozy accommodation while on extended cruises. Two guest staterooms with two twin berths are available for four additional guests with a shared head along with crew quarters for two.

Galati Yacht Sales stated, “the 2021 Prestige X70 – Infinity is a true masterpiece that seamlessly blends cutting-edge design with unparalleled performance. The term that best describes this X70 is “Revolutionary”. Prestige Yachts and Garroni Design created a revolution in space and movement by moving the side decks of the Prestige X70 to the flybridge; enhancing circulation and improving room on the main deck with interior decor by Valentina Militerno De Romedis. This new concept in design resulted in a yacht with 40% larger salon, and a 60% larger cockpit than yachts in the same class.”

Where is Infinity located? The yacht is currently lying in Sarasota, Florida

For boaters looking for a new-to-them used yacht, now is a great time to start looking at options as the used-yacht segment has been shifting to a buyer’s market. To help boat buyers in their yacht shopping, we go in-depth on 10 used flybridge cruisers that are ready for new owners today.

Princess Yachts S60

2019 Princess Yachts S60 – Rock On – Palm Beach, Florida

“HMY Yacht Sales has Rock On, a 2019 Princess Yachts S60, listed at $2.149 million. The nearly 38-knot, 60-foot sportbridge yacht is equal parts performance and entertainment thanks to its efficient hull form and well-appointed social spaces.

Rock On reaches its aforementioned 38-knot top hop thanks to optional 1,200 hp MAN V-8 diesels. The 60-footer has a 29-knot cruise speed, and it’s worth noting the engines have only 390 hours. The yacht has also spent its entire life on freshwater.

“While sport-bridge models are occasionally maligned as nothing more than a compromise between a motoryacht and an express cruiser, the Princess S60 represents a solid counterargument to that gripe. There simply isn’t a whole lot of half-stepping to this yacht,” Yachting previously reported

Ferretti Yachts 750

2015 Ferretti 750 – Sami Kay III – Miami, Florida

“First launched at the 2013 Cannes Yachting Festival, the Ferretti Yachts 750 expanded on the design of its sibling, the Ferretti 720, innovating areas like the tail of the flybridge to give the new 75-footer a sleeker and sportier profile. Allied Marine currently has Sami Kay III, a 2015 Ferretti 750, listed with an asking price of $2.29 million.

When it comes to choosing where to catch some sun on Sami Kay III will you pick the two-person sun pad on the foredeck or the three-person sun pad on the flybridge? How about alfresco dining, will you and your guests eat at the C-shaped dinette on the flybridge or down in the cockpit? Even the captain has to choose between the all-weather lower helm station or the wind-in-your-hair upper helm station. Decisions, decisions.”

The Sea Ray L550 Fly has a galley-aft layout and it’s positioned to easily serve guests in the salon and the cockpit. Nearly 360 degrees of glass keep everyone in the salon connected to the sea. Azimut Yachts 80 Fly
In addition to a sporty profile, the Azimut Yachts 80 Fly Deep Blue has equally sporty performance. Top speed: 31 knots. Courtesy MarineMax

2018 Azimut 80 Fly – Deep Blue – Pompano Beach, Florida

“The Azimut Yachts 80 Fly called Deep Blue is currently for sale with MarineMax with an asking price of $3.69 million. The 2018 build has chic lines, 31-knot speed and a layout aimed at family cruising fun.

“Azimut designer Stefano Righini got the exterior just right, creating a flybridge and hardtop that enhance the aggressive, but not too racy, lines of the hull,” Yachting previously reported. “In the profile view, the 80 is quite sleek and proportional. From the stern, she has even more attractive symmetry: The superstructure tapers in where it joins the hull, and then flares outward as the flybridge takes over from the salon. Righini thought through the geometry, using straight lines with subtle curves and sharp angles, including a large, blue-mirrored panel at the base of the radar arch that looks like one of the salon windows from a distance.””

Marquis 65

2008 Marquis 65 – Serenity – Stuart, Florida

“United Yacht Sales currently has Serenity, a Marquis 65, listed with an asking price of $1.35 million. This 2008 flybridge motor yacht is packed with spaces future owners and their guests are sure to enjoy from its four well-appointed staterooms to its EZ2CY enclosed flybridge.

When Yachting first wrote about the Marquis65, we noted how “The new 65-footer is not simply a bigger Carver, in concept or in execution; she is a whole new animal. The company reached beyond its own doors to ensure the new series would be not just what Carver wanted, but what knowledgeable yachtsmen would demand. She is nothing short of world-class.”

To that end, Serenity’s salon has a sense of volume and warmth because of its open floorplan with the country galley forward, rich, high-gloss wood finishes and natural light from nearly 360 degrees of glass. Owners can dial in the desired natural lighting via automatic blinds. The salon also has a three-person sofa and coffee table to port with four lounge chairs positioned around the salon. A spiral staircase to starboard leads to this yacht’s flybridge.”

2017 Azimut 50 Fly – Kilauea – Miami, Florida

“MarineMax currently has Kilauea, an Azimut Yachts 50 Fly, listed with an asking price of $890,000. The 2017 build can sleep six with its three-stateroom, two-head layout.

Yachting first reported that the exterior of Azimut’s 50 Fly, designed by Stefano Righini, is based on the builder’s popular 80-footer. “Retaining some of her key eye-popping elements such as unbroken, porpoise-shaped, single-pane mirrored windows in her superstructure. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, the windows enhance views from the salon and helm, add an aggressive look to her profile and let natural light bathe the yacht’s interior.”

Stepping on to Kilauea’s swim platform, which doubles as tender stowage, cockpit access is via stairs flanking the transom. The cockpit has a U-shaped sofa aft with a fixed table, just add loose chairs and there is alfresco dining for up to six. Stairs to port lead up to the flybridge while wide side decks with high rails lead to the foredeck, which has bench seating abaft a two-person sun pad.”

2017 Princess 52– Daylight Comet – Seattle, Washington

Princess Yachts might have broken the mold when it engineered its 52’ Flybridge yacht. Built in Plymouth, England, people describe these yachts as classy, elegant and artistic with plenty of room to keep its passengers and crew comfortable. Daylight Comet, a 2017 52’ Princess, is new to the market and located in Seattle, WA. Buyers should be warned not to hesitate; this offer is not expected to last very long.

Daylight Comet is powered by two. low-hour (980) Caterpillar C-32 Acert diesels, reportedly pushing this yacht to a max speed of 28 knots. Cruising speed is around 23 knots, giving the yacht a range of 260 nautical miles. The layout of this Princess consists of three staterooms with crew quarters, a head located at the stern, salon with galley and the ultimate flybridge. The overall design and appointments of Daylight Comet might remind you of a superyacht, but it can be easily handled by an owner-operator.”

2020 Fairline Squadron 68 – Blind Date – Destin, Florida

“The first generation of Fairline’s flagship Squadron 68 was released in 2019, and it is still the largest yacht in the British builder range of boats spanning four lines from 33 to 68 feet length overall. Galati Yacht Sales has the 2020 Fairline Squadron 68, Blind Date, for sale at just shy of $2.6 million.

“Our collaboration with celebrated Italian yacht designer Alberto Mancini combines contemporary style with a long-standing heritage and our award-winning range of designs have become synonymous with outstanding seakeeping, performance and luxury,” Fairline says.

The Squadron 68 has a sporty and sleek profile, aided by covering the topside windows with a black slash that runs nearly the length of the yacht, which brings natural light into the staterooms belowdecks. The rear-leaning supports for the hardtop accent the profile, and reverse-raked glass on the flybridge helps with the aesthetic while reducing glare off the water.”

2005 Hinckley Yachts Talaria 40 – Elise – Portland, Maine

“The new [Hinckley] Talaria 40 is neither as sporty as her smaller sibling nor as soft on the senses as her larger sister. She fits nicely between the two, with accommodations that invite owners to spend more than a weekend aboard, even to prepare meals and sleep,” Yachting previously reported.

Worth Avenue Yachts has Elise, a Hinckley Yachts Talaria 40 that combines classic downeast lines with angling features, listed for sale with a $599,000 price tag. While the yacht was originally delivered in 2005, it was transformed in 2012 after naval architect Mathew Smith, engineers from Volvo Penta and Hank Hinckley replaced the standard jet propulsion system with the latest Volvo Penta IPS pod-drive propulsion system, resulting in a “groundbreaking and first-of-its-kind modification,” according to Worth Avenue Yachts.

The yacht has “enhanced tracking, superior turning ability, and a more efficient midrange cruise compared to traditional jet-powered counterparts,” says the broker, adding, “Elise goes a step further by offering dynamic positioning, allowing her to hold a specific GPS position at the touch of a button—an invaluable feature not only around docks but also during bridge wait times or while observing an upwind mark rounding in a sailing race.”

With the yacht’s previous owner being an avid fisherman, they added an array of features that enhance the fishing experience, including 27-foot Rupp removable outriggers, rod holders, a baitwell, a slightly modified cockpit, a removable rocket launcher and a livewell.

Belowdecks, owners and guests have access to the day head to port, the V-berth cabin forward and the galley to starboard. The galley is equipped with a Corian countertop, a two-burner Princess electric cooktop, a single-basin polished stainless-steel sink, a Sharp convection microwave oven, an Adler Barbour refrigerator/freezer and a U-Line ice maker.

The interior has two L-shaped settees and a fixed table to port. Twin low-hour (653) 435 hp Volvo Penta IPS600 diesels power the 40-footer.

Additional features aboard Elise include:

  • Garmin 8617 multifunction display/radar, chart plotter
  • Simrad AP28 Autopilot
  • Icom IC-M602 VHF
  • Raymarine ST60 Tri-data display

Grand Banks 46 Eastbay SX – 2012 – Defiance – Essex, Connecticut

“Sportiness is not a modifier often associated with Downeast-style express cruisers. But the new 46 Eastbay is powered by the Zeus propulsion system from Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, which changes the game as far as performance and handling are concerned,” Yachting previously reported

Grand Banks Yachts built, and is currently selling Defiance, a Grand Banks 46 Eastbay SX, for $829,000. The 2012 Downeast Cruiser features a two-stateroom, two-head layout. It’s powered by twin 600 hp Cummins QSC 8.3 diesels with Zeus pod drives, which give the 46 Eastbay SX a 31-knot top hop.

The interior of the 46-footer has satin-finish teak with a teak-and-holly sole throughout the interior. A U-shaped dinette to port and a sofa to starboard complete the salon’s seating arrangement.

Belowdecks, owners and their guests will find the galley amidships with the en suite master stateroom and its queen berth forward in the bow. Galley appliances include a Princess Gourmet three-burner cooktop, a freezer, two refrigerator drawers, a microwave/convection oven, a stainless-steel sink and provision stowage.

First-time guests probably won’t even notice the main deck galley which feels seamlessly integrated into the port-side counters, directly across from the two helm seats.

2008 Huckins 60 – Marina – Naples, Florida

“Her reverse transom masks an integral swim platform, which seems a practical compromise to tradition and accounts for her length overall (60 feet, 3 inches). Her styling has been refined: It’s a bit softer and has more curves than Frank Huckins might have liked. Such features were not efficient in wood construction. The gentle rise of her slightly reverse sheer, her proud chine, and the conservative rake of her stem are trademark Huckins,” Yachting previously reported

Allied Marine has a 2008 Huckins 60 for sale with a $995,000 asking price. Marina, a 60-foot motoryacht, has a two-stateroom layout, a new Glendinning Joystick control system and a 2-foot, 7-inch shoal draft.

The open, dance-floor-sized cockpit is a blank canvas for owners to equip to suit their entertainment needs, fishing and more.

A few steps up from the cockpit is the bridge deck, which has the helm forward and two three-person sofas flanking the lounge space aft. A fixed, high-gloss folding table between them turns the lounge area into a formal dining spot.

Stepping belowdecks, there is a salon and open galley with three hullside windows on either side bathing the space in natural light, creating the sense of interior volume. Galley appliances include:

  • Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer
  • Miele dishwasher
  • Miele oven
  • Kenyon two-burner ceramic stovetop
  • Granite countertops
  • Built-In storage for crystal, china and flatware

Abaft the lower-deck lounge area and down a few steps is the full-beam amidships master stateroom, which has a queen berth and an en suite his-and-hers head, separated by a shower stall. The forepeak guest stateroom has V-berths.

Marina has the same 715 hp Cummins QSM 11 diesels our test yacht had, which saw a 31-knot top hop and a 25-knot cruise.

Notable helm features on board Marina include:

2012 Riva SportRiva 56 – Gabriela – North Miami, Florida

“Riva’s SportRiva 56 is a dangerous yacht. It will blur your eyesight, disturb your emotions, mess with your mind. It is that older woman with the sultry eyes sitting alone at the bar. Walking down the pier toward the SportRiva, your mind says, “Run! Run for your life!” But you are powerless, drawn inexorably like metal filings to a magnet,” Yachting previously reported

Atlantic Yacht & Ship Inc. has the 2012 Riva SportRiva, Gabriela, for sale with an $850,000 asking price. The chic 56-foot flybridge cruiser has such a low-profile sportbridge guests might first think they’re looking at an express cruiser.

Twin MAN V8-900 diesels give Gabriela a 34-knot top hop and a 30-knot cruise speed. Yachting previously reported that, “With her 15-degree transom deadrise, she had a soft ride in the choppy Gulf Stream off Florida, and she took just a touch of trim tabs to run flat and fast.”

Outside entertainment spaces on board Gabriela include a foredeck sun pad, two lounge pads on the flybridge and a diner-style booth in the cockpit.

In the salon, guests will find seating to port with a settee and fixed table adjacent to the helm station.

For owners seeking a boat with performance, function and cruising comfort, and that is all wrapped up in a stylish profile, HMY Yacht Sales currently has the 2020 Prestige 630 Fly Dog House listed at $1.595 million.

Prestige Yachts went through great lengths to design the 630 Fly to maximize on board volume. Yachting previously reported on the design process that helps maintain the yacht’s near-7-foot headroom. It used what the builder calls steps.

“But these aren’t steps in the traditional sense; they are a build technique that lowered the 630’s center of gravity considerably. That, in turn, created the vessel’s pillow-soft ride. How did it happen without compromising the build? A lot of math. To create the interior volume and nearly 7 feet of headroom throughout the yacht without steps, the 630 would have needed its three decks stacked at a height stretching to about 12 feet. That would have made for a tender-riding yacht. To solve this problem, Prestige added steps: areas hidden above the salon headliner where the superstructure drops about 1½ feet per section, all strategically placed. Where each step occurs, build material is overlapped, beefed up and reinforced to help distribute force incurred underway.”

Prestige Yachts 630 Fly
The main-deck layout has the galley aft and the salon forward, with seating on both sides. Note the nearly 360 degrees of windows keeping the interior bright and airy. Courtesy HMY Yacht Sales

The 630’s main deck has nearly 360 degrees of volume-enhancing windows, offering ocean vistas and bathing the salon in natural light. The lower-helm station is forward and to starboard and the galley is aft with the lounge space in between. A love seat to starboard while another love seat, a sofa, a lounge chair and coffee table are to port. A flat-screen TV is hidden behind the starboard seating in case you need to catch the big game.

Dog House’s galley-aft layout makes it easy to entertain and serve guests both in the salon and in the cockpit. Galley appliances include:

  • Miele 3-burner induction cooktop
  • Extractor hood in the galley
  • Dishwasher
  • Full-size refrigerator and freezer
  • Stowage
  • Villeroy & Bosch dishware, glassware and flatware kit
  • Convection microwave oven
  • Stainless-steel undermount sink

Belowdecks accommodations include three staterooms and three heads. The amidships owners’ stateroom has an island queen berth, a flat-screen TV, a sofa to port and an en suite head. The VIP stateroom also has an island queen berth, a flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The third guest space has side-by-side twin berths that convert to a queen.

Regarding outside entertainment spaces, Dog House has the flybridge, the cockpit and the foredeck. On the flybridge, guests can dial in more light and heat via the retractable sunroof. The helm station is forward and to port with bench seating. Across is a lounge pad, while abaft the helm is additional bench seating. A wet bar and grill station are to starboard, while the flybridge’s after section has an L-shaped dinette for alfresco dining or lounging.

The cockpit has the advantage of being shaded and protected by the flybridge overhang. Up to eight people can enjoy dining at the transom bench seat and fixed folding teak dining table, just add a few chairs.

The Prestige 630’s foredeck has a three-person sun pad with a folding bench seat forward, making it a great spot to catch some sun or sit and enjoy a book on the hook.

Dog House has twin Volvo  Penta IPS950 D11 diesel engines, which combine to produce 1,500 hp. Yachting tested this same set up during our initial see trial of the 630:

“The engines pushed my 54,470-pound (dry weight) test yacht across the water at an average top hop of 29.9 knots. The motors burned 70 gph and turned 2,550 rpm, within 50 rpm of their rated maximum of 2,500 rpm. Her fly-by-wire steering was real-time responsive, turning 360 degrees in about two boat lengths. She had a sporty feel for a 63-footer too, helped in part by the moderate setting programmed into the IPS drives. (The builder can set the rate of turn for the pod drives to the best fit for the yacht.) Dialing the motors back to 2,250 rpm put the vessel into a steady 24-knot cruise with the diesels consuming 52 gph. With a 713-gallon fuel capacity, that translates into a range greater than 340 nautical miles at cruise speed, with a 10 percent reserve.”

Some other notable features on board Dog House include:

  • Three Raymarine Axiom 16L displays at main helm station
  • Two Raymarine Axiom 16L displays at flybridge helm
  • Upgraded open array Radar 72NM
  • AIS700
  • Ray90 dual station VHF with a wireless second station
  • P70R Autopilot displays
  • FLIR Thermal Camera

  • Onan generator

Power Catamaran Popularity Rising https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/power-cat-popularity-rising/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=62852 With more boaters embracing the power-catamaran lifestyle, boatbuilders and charter companies alike are seeing an increase in demand.

Aromas from sizzling steak, local lobster and freshly caught mahi mahi wafted through the air as an inflatable Santa ballooned on the flybridge of Mark and Janeen Traylor’s Horizon Power Catamarans 52. The Georgia-based couple was in Marsh Harbour, Bahamas, preparing for one of their most memorable family Christmas dinners.

Coker and Cathy Price of South Carolina also had what they described as their “best family vacation ever” aboard a catamaran—an Aquila 48 they chartered in the British Virgin Islands.

These are just two examples of boaters who have joined the shift toward catamarans in the past decade or so. While a catamaran or two used to be an anomaly at a marina, an increasing number of boaters are embracing the volume and efficiencies that catamarans offer. Marinas along the US East Coast are now building docks with transient catamaran cruisers in mind, and some charter companies now focus on cats because an increasing number of customers prefer them.

The Horizon PC60 can come with a main-deck master and still have a salon with room to spare. Courtesy Horizon Power Catamarans

The Traylors made the transition from 35- and 60-foot monohulls to a 53-foot Horizon power cat. The Prices owned several catamarans smaller than 30 feet long before buying an Aquila 36, christened Nauti Cat after Cathy.

“If you’re at anchorage, it’s much more stable. If you’re on a monohull, it just doesn’t take much at all to tip it from side to side,” Mark says. “It’s very family-friendly. As far as the amount of space that you get on it and having people be able to move around the boat and not feel like you’re right on top of each other, comparing it to a monohull, there’s just not much of a comparison at all.”

Coker also says there’s no comparison: “I don’t know why they even make monohulls anymore.”

Catamaran builders are seeing substantial increases in customer demand. Darren Henn, VisionF Yachts and Silent-Yachts sales broker for the United States, says that before the pandemic, Silent-Yachts sold four or five vessels a year. Since 2020, the builder has sold 15 or 16 hulls a year at an average price of $3.8 million to $7.6 million, he says.

Prestige Yachts, which launched its M-Line of catamarans with the debut of the M48 at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, has sold more than 20 of the hulls and recently launched a new flagship for the line, the 65-foot M8.

The Silent VisionF 82, which made its global debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, has a 32-foot-6-inch beam with an open-layout flybridge that, alone, could comfortably host upward of 20 guests. The 581-square-foot salon is dedicated entirely to socializing.

“I think it comes back down to usable space on the boats,” Henn says. “People want to be able to host parties. They want to be able to have friends. If you’re on any other vessel of similar size, you’re going to be able to put a fraction [of the] amount of those people. Once you see the bow of this vessel, you’re going to be like, ‘Man, you can put 100 people up in the front.’”

Other boatbuilders are designing catamarans to appeal to even more styles of boating. Aquila’s 47 Molokai, for instance, is a center-console sport-fisherman that can reportedly top out at around 62 knots and cruise at about 42 knots. It also has a cabin belowdecks for a couple to use on a long weekend. The wide-open, performance-centric design is much different from the first cats that came onto the market years ago.

“Traditionally, catamarans are boxes on the water, rectangles on the water,” says Alain Raas, Aquila brand manager for MarineMax. “You’re starting to see the more sporty look, the swept lines. And then you’re also getting up in speed now. All of our models, we’re really focused on semiplaning or planing hulls. We’re not just focused on going slow. We want to have the option to go fast for our clients.”

Another factor driving catamaran popularity is charter bookings. The Moorings now offers close to a dozen power and sail catamarans as part of its charter fleet. MarineMax Vacations specializes in power cats, and Regency Yacht Charters says it’s seeing broad demand for even bigger cats, such as the Sunreef 80.

Some of those charter clients, like the Price family, go on to buy power catamarans. They took delivery of Nauti Cat in January 2023. Its stability makes for an easy cruise from South Carolina to the Bahamas, they say, and its 2-foot draft allows for shallow-water approaches with family and friends aboard near Edisto Beach, South Carolina.

The Traylors say they’re not going back to monohulls. As of this writing, they were preparing for their first Abacos season aboard a new Horizon PC60.

“The catamaran charter market is just exploding,” says Bob Denison, president of Denison Yachting. “We’re going to continue to see the growth in the catamaran segment of the market take off, and it’s never going to be a trend. This thing is here to stay. I think in 50 years, catamarans are going to be just as common as monohulls.”

For yachtsmen in the market for a flybridge cruiser, OneWater Yacht Group has Dragonfly, a Prestige 560, listed with an asking price of $998,000. The one-owner, 2018 build has a three-stateroom layout, 30-knot speed and a cabin for crew.

“The Prestige 560 features the original shape of the Prestige 550, yet offers additional advantages,” according to Prestige. “Her swim platform is elongated and affords the same easy access developed for the Yachts range, with an automatically deploying staircase. Her interior has been modified, as well.”

The yacht’s flybridge has shaded alfresco dining at a dinette aft. Forward and to port is the helm station with bench seat, adjacent to a two-person sun pad. Abaft the helm is a grilling station with a sink.

Pull up some chairs to Prestige 560’s the cockpit’s fixed table and bench seat to enjoy alfresco dining for up to six guests. Stairs to port lead up to the flybridge while teak side decks and high rails mean safe transit to and from to the foredeck.

A three-person adjustable sun pad on the foredeck is the go-to spot when it’s time to catch some rays. Put up the Bimini top if you need to cool off, but aren’t ready to head inside yet.

Dragonfly has a galley-aft layout, which is set up to easily serve guests in the salon as well as those dining in the cockpit. The galley is equipped with a microwave oven, an electric cooktop, a sink, refrigerator drawers, a dishwasher and cabinets for cruising provisions.

The salon’s sense of space is enhanced by natural light thanks, in part, to nearly 360 degrees of glass. The design keeps guests constantly connected to their environment. Electric shades create privacy when desired and a relaxing ambience when the sun goes down. One step up from the galley is a three-person sofa and two lounge chairs to port surrounding a folding hi-lo table. A second two-person sofa is to starboard, creating a space that beckons guests to sit and stay a while.

Prestige Yachts M8 Review https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/prestige-m8-reviewed/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=61356 Prestige Yachts' second catamaran, the voluminous 65-foot M8, lets owners customize onboard spaces.

How fitting it was that Prestige Yachts introduced its new M-Line flagship, the M8, at Portopiccolo, a picturesque yachting village outside Trieste, Italy. Formerly a quarry, the cliff-side area had been chiseled into a clean site rife with eye-catching vistas, much like the French builder’s 65-foot power catamaran and its nearly 3,000 square feet of usable real estate.

Take, for starters, the M8’s 344-square-foot cockpit. Apart from flybridge-bound stairs to port and a wet bar to starboard, this space (as well as most of the yacht’s living areas) is an open deck with modular furniture. This setup allows owners to choose how they spend their time, whether watching sunsets on the hook or relaxing underway. Aboard Hull No. 1, which will debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this month, there were four movable square-shaped sofas and two accompanying side tables.

Aft-deck space is further enhanced by the M8’s versatile swim platform (14 feet, 5 inches by 4 feet, 11 inches) that Prestige describes as a “balcony on the sea.” When it wasn’t overlooking the smooth waters of the Adriatic Sea, the 1,102-pound-capacity platform lowered into swimming-pool mode at the push of a button, allowing access to the garage, dinghies and water toys.

The M8’s modular-furniture concept continues in the salon, where there is 6-foot-6-inch headroom, and on the flybridge. Between both spaces, the only fixed furniture is the 538-square-foot flybridge’s three-person sun pad to starboard, abaft the staircase leading to the salon. The flybridge also has a wet bar with a grill abaft a two-seat centerline helm station with two 22-inch multifunction displays. To port, there is a dining table with seating for eight; aft and to starboard, there is another lounging area with an L-shaped sofa to starboard and two-person aft-facing seating on centerline with room for two loose tables.

As for this hull’s 511-square-foot salon, it had two free-standing chairs to starboard, a sofa on centerline and another to port. The salon connects to the cockpit via an opening centerline window with a service bar that has a wine chiller for 18 bottles, a sink and stowage. Forward and to port, there is a dining area with a table for six, and the galley is to starboard (a galley-down layout is also an option). Appliances are by Miele, including a three-burner cooktop, a microwave and a dishwasher, and there is a 132-gallon, triple-door fridge/freezer by Fisher & Paykel. This M8 also has the optional Surround View system by Garmin to make maneuvering in tight spaces easier; its console is nestled between the galley and centerline stairs leading to the owner’s stateroom. Owners can also opt for a lower helm station with a pedestal seat for all-weather cruising.

The 323-square-foot foredeck lounge is where the M8 diverts from its free-standing-furniture style the most. A sun pad consumes nearly the entire width of this space. Down two steps and forward, there is forward-facing straight-line seating on centerline across from an aft-facing C-shaped settee.

Accommodations can include four or five staterooms, with options for a VIP suite that consumes the portside hull and the galley down in the starboard hull. The 323-square-foot master stateroom is forward and nearly spans the yacht’s 29-foot beam, with its athwartship berth across from a console with a rising TV. There’s also a head with his-and-hers sinks to port, and a customizable space to starboard for a gym, a lounge, a gaming area or whatever else the owner wants.

Power for the M8 is twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8 diesels. With the throttle all the way to the pins, I observed a 20.5-knot top hop as the diesels burned a combined 63.4 gallons per hour at 2,900 rpm. At 7.7 knots, reported range is 1,583 nautical miles; at 17 knots, it’s reportedly 350 nm. Turning the M8 felt smooth, running like it was on rails, and the wheel was real-time responsive to input.

The Prestige Yachts M8 is worth a look for power cat enthusiasts seeking adaptability, customization and a notable master stateroom that’s akin to one inside a small apartment. This new flagship has plenty of potential to be a desirable home on the water.

Luxurious Furnishings

The M8’s furniture is provided by four brands: Reflex Angelo, Pininfarina, Roda and Foglizzo. Regardless of where I decided to lounge while on board, there was always a place to get comfortable and take in the views.

Access Anywhere

In addition to two stairways leading to the flybridge (one in the cockpit, one in the salon), the Prestige M8 has two side-deck doors. One is forward and to port, and the other is aft and to starboard. A portside day head is accessible from the side deck.

Sun-Powered Anchorage

Hull No. 2 of the M8, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival last month, has the optional “Silent Mode” package: 10 lithium batteries powered by 258 square feet of solar panels, which should allow two hours of silent operation sans generators and with zero emissions.

Meet the Prestige Yachts M48 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/yachts/new-yachts-prestige-m48/ Tue, 09 May 2023 17:00:13 +0000 https://www.yachtingmagazine.com/?p=60222 The M48 marks Prestige Yachts’ entrance into the power-catamaran market.

New toys tend to be exciting to play with. In Prestige Yachts’ latest launch, the M48, there is a lot of new. For starters, the M48 is the French builder’s first model in its M-Line, marking Prestige Yachts’ foray into the multihull market. Then, consider the various belowdecks layouts and interior-design options that let owners make the yacht as personalized as they want.

Starting at the top, the M48 has a 215-square-foot flybridge with a portside helm station. Here, the skipper can access Volvo Penta instrumentation and two 16-inch touchscreen displays. Adjacent to the helm station, there is companion seating for at least two. Abaft are a wooden dinette with an L-shaped settee and a sun pad.

Guests can take the portside stairs down from the flybridge to the main deck, arriving in the 140-square-foot cockpit. There is seating in each of the cockpit’s four corners: aft in forward-facing L-shaped settees with tables, and flanking the sliding glass door to the yacht’s interior. Three steps down from the cockpit is a 54-square-foot central lifting platform with 17-square-foot side platforms to port and starboard.

Inside, the galley is to starboard with a stainless-steel sink, an electric microwave and oven, a three-burner induction cooktop, a 47-gallon fridge and an 11-gallon freezer. To port for easy service, there is U-shaped seating around a dining table.

Some guests can head down to their belowdecks accommodations via stairs to port. The VIP stateroom and one guest stateroom are here, along with the day head. Both of these staterooms have twin berths that combine to create doubles.

Forward of the galley, another set of stairs to starboard leads belowdecks to a space that owners can customize. They can choose a master stateroom or two twin-berth guest staterooms. In the master configuration, the head is split into two areas, with a shower to port and a toilet to starboard. The master stateroom also has a lounge and a desk with drawers, making the space a good spot to hide out and read or get some work done at anchor.

Power is twin 320 hp Volvo Penta D4s paired to V-drives. Prestige Yachts says the yacht’s top-end speed is 20 knots; cruising speed is 16 knots with a 240-nautical-mile range; and at 8 knots, the M48 is capable of cruising for 600 nautical miles.
