On the flybridge, the current owners dedicate the after section to PWC stowage with three chaise lounge chairs forward. On centerline and amidships is a Whirlpool spa with two C-shaped dinettes, which are partially shaded by the yacht’s hardtop. Aft, an L-shaped sofa and lounge chair are positioned around a coffee table, directly across from a flat-screen TV, creating an inviting lounge area. Forward and to starboard, a Granite-topped bar with a built-in wine cooler, ice maker and stowage sits adjacent to a circular glass-topped ‘game table’. Farther forward is the formal dining space, which is abaft the makore cherry credenza on the mirrored forward bulkhead. The stone-top dining table offers luxury dining for up to eight people.

The top speed on this 110-foot motoryacht with a 245,000-pound displacement is 24-plus knots because of twin MTU DDEC 16V2000 diesels. For owners looking to move into the crewed-yacht experience, Yachts360  has Hope Floats, a Lazzara 116 Open Bridge, listed for $3.795 million. The 2007 build has a variety of entertainment spaces and a rare five-stateroom layout that can sleep up to 12 guests.

Inside, the superyacht’s rich high-gloss cherry warms the salon, while windows running the length of the salon enhance the sense of volume, creating unobstructed ocean vistas. The salon has a conventional layout with the lounge area aft and formal dining forward. The low-top bar to port with three chairs will definitely be a gathering spot after hours. The galley is located forward.

The flybridge has no less than seven distinct social zones for guests to enjoy including three dinettes, a whirlpool spa and a bar. Courtesy Yachts360

The country galley is notable for its Makore cherry veneer cabinets, granite countertops, cherry plank sole and a pull-out privacy door. Appliances include:

  • Stainless-steel cabinet handles
  • Stainless-steel double sink with faucet and sprayer
  • Cherry-plank sole
  • Five-burner electric cooktop
  • Stainless-steel microwave oven
  • Stainless-steel side-by-side refrigerator and freezer drawers with ice maker
  • Stainless-steel dishwasher
  • 27-inch built-in oven
  • Raised dinette with curved seating for six
  • Built-in pantry
  • Trash compactor

Hope Float’s sense of luxury carries through to the lower-deck accommodations, from the owners’ stateroom to the converted fifth stateroom. The full-beam owners’ stateroom is amidships. Two queen-berth staterooms are forward of the owners’ space. There is a forepeak VIP with a centerline berth. The final stateroom has side-by-side berths and Pullman bunks.

Entertainment spaces continue outside with the cockpit’s three-stool L-shaped bar when it’s time for sundowners. As dinner time approaches, guests can move to the transom bench seat and the high-gloss cherry dining table. Pull up a few chairs to seat up to eight guests for an alfresco dinner.

Guests will notice that side decks on the Lazzara 116s do not run from the cockpit to the foredeck, instead the salon benefits from all 23-feet-1-inch of beam and side decks start forward of amidships. They are accessible via port and starboard doors. The foredeck has a three-person lounge pad, making it a great spot to catch some sun after a morning swim.

When it’s time to take the party upstairs, the after section of the flybridge has a five-person bench seat, two fixed tables and enough space to add loose chairs. Forward, a whirlpool spa sits on the centerline flanked by two facing C-shaped dinettes adjacent. A bar with four stools is forward and to port with a U-shaped dinette forward and to starboard, all abaft the helm station on centerline.

Twin 2,000 hp MTU 16V 2000 diesels power Hope Floats, giving the superyacht a reported 27-knot top hop and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Yachting previously reported on the engineering behind the 116-footer’s 5-foot, 6-inch shoal draft.

“The yacht is as modern under the water as above. To keep her draft at a [relatively] shallow depth (5-feet, 6-inches), her custom machined five-blade props turn in shallow tunnels. To assure minimal vibration and maximum efficiency, Lazzara worked with Rolla, a well-respected Swiss propeller manufacturer, on the design of the props and tunnels.”

Some other notable features on board Hope Floats include:

  • Onan 55kw Generator (Port) 4,200 hours
  • Onan 55kw Generator (Stbd.) 1 500 hours
  • Hydraulic swim platform that doubles as tender stowage
  • Flybridge grill
  • Two crew cabins

The WiLder 60, From Wider Yachts

With the WiLder 60, Italy’s Wider Yachts is introducing more than a new model. It’s launching the first design in a whole new brand of boats. The aluminum design is described as a hybrid between a chase boat and a performance cruiser, with reported 40-knot speed and a customizable platform for one-off orders. Power is a pair of twin 1,300 hp MAN V-8s. The first hull is already in build and scheduled to launch this summer, with a draft of 3 feet, 4 inches that should make the boat usable in skinny-water destinations. Hull No. 1 will have three staterooms and two heads for weekends with friends or family at anchor. For easier maneuvering in close quarters, the boat will be outfitted with Quick Marine bow and stern thrusters.

Lazzara Yachts is building this LPC 70 power catamaran for an owner who expects to cruise in the Mediterranean. There are five guest staterooms on board, including a master slightly abaft amidships that has a starboard-side fold-out balcony. The main deck has a day head, and the galley is located forward on the lower deck, with stairs leading to the main-deck dining table. Aft, there’s relaxation space for guests, along with a garage that can house an 18-foot tender and two personal watercraft. When the tender and toys are deployed, the space becomes a beach club. Lazzara is projecting a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots with twin 550 hp Volvo Penta D8s. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13s are optional.

Vicem’s 65 Classic Flybridge, With Down East Style

The Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge is a Down East-style boat with a reported maximum speed of 32 knots. The builder says the light-blue hull color is proving popular, though owners can choose whatever color they wish. Accommodations include an amidships master stateroom with a king-size berth and a forepeak stateroom for guests. Both are en suite, and they’re separated by a galley and dining space, giving everyone their privacy. The dining space can convert to a sleeping area for extra guests. Alfresco dining is up on the main deck. Vicem says the 65 Classic Flybridge can be built in fiberglass, but cold-molded construction is available as well. Lithium-ion batteries can power the boat for 15 hours without generator use.

Rich Lazzara at Lazzara Lenton says there has been a $500,000 price reduction on the 116-foot Lazzara Serenity, a 2008 build that will be on display this weekend at the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show. The asking price is now $7.495 million.

Serenity is a four-stateroom design that has long been popular in the Florida and Bahamas charter market with RJC Yachts. She is one of the few yachts in her size range designed to be wheelchair accessible, with hardwood flooring instead of carpets on the main deck and one guest cabin outfitted with hardly noticeable, but highly useful features such as extra-wide doors and bathroom handrails. More conspicuous is a chair lift in the stairwell leading from the main deck down to the cabins; the lift, of course, may be removed if the new owner doesn’t need it.

The MTU DDC 2000 diesels have 2,600 hours on them. They drive Serenity to a cruising speed of 22 knots and a top speed of 27 knots. A pair of 55-kW Onan generators show 5,000 hours of use.

If you can’t make it to Miami to see Serenity in person, there are lots of photos and a video of her at www.lazzaralenton.com.

106-foot Lazzara motoryacht Secret Spot

The 106-foot Lazzara motoryacht Secret Spot was used to smuggle cocaine from the Bahamas to the United States.

When news broke in October about the captain aboard the 106-foot Lazzara Secret Spot being arrested on drug-smuggling charges, reports estimated the street value of the cocaine at $5 million to $6 million.

That was an understatement, to say the least. Capt. Jonathan Costenbader, who is 34, recently pleaded guilty to smuggling $14.5 million worth — about 1,100 pounds in total.

The smuggling, prosecutors say, took place during at least five trips from Florida to the Bahamas and back. Costenbader was paid at least $1.2 million for just a couple of his most recent trips, and most of the money is already gone thanks to a gambling habit. He told authorities that he might have about $200,000 left at most.

Not that the captain will need much cash in the future; he’s facing life in prison when sentencing occurs at his next court appearance.

Jody Lee is listed at an asking price of $2.35 million, and Passion‘s owner is asking $2.49 million. Both are Open Bridge Grand Salon models with a pair of 1,550-hp Caterpillar C30 diesels.

That’s not to say they’re identical yachts in terms of performance, of course. (Always read those full specs carefully!) Jody Lee has a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of 32 knots, while Passion is a little faster at cruise speed, at 27 knots, but slower at the top end, at 30 knots.

Where these yachts are the same is in their layout, with five staterooms apiece to keep even the extended family comfortable during long-weekend getaways. Each yacht also has six (count ’em!) heads, including the en suites in the staterooms.

And while Passion is a one-owner yacht that has always been maintained by crew, Jody Lee can claim a bit more recent news in terms of upgrades thanks to $100,000 worth of refit work in spring 2013. Among other things, she has new paint in the machinery area, new Garmin touchscreen displays at the helm and a touchup of her exterior gelcoat.

Passion is currently lying in Fort Myers, Florida, while_ Jody Lee_ is in Fort Lauderdale — and is available for viewings during the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. For more information, contact Rich Lazzara at Lazzara Lenton, www.lazzaralenton.com.
