With every boat, there’s an origin story. In the case of the Aquila 47 Molokai power catamaran, it starts with MarineMax, which saw people renting boats for bareboat charters. MarineMax Vacations was born. After experimenting with several production yachts, the company decided to build its own: the Aquila line, designed for charter as well as for sale to owner-operators.

Sales are uncomplicated: Build a boat that buyers want at a price they can afford. Charter is another creature because a charter yacht has to be desirable and bulletproof. Bareboats have to be rugged, easily maintained and even easier to repair. Thus, the Aquila line became a success.

Now MarineMax spies a new niche: sport fishing. While previous iterations of the Aquila power catamaran have generally been comfy cruisers—and though the 28 Molokai dipped the builder’s toe into the sport-fish scene—the Aquila 47 Molokai has serious offshore angling written all over it. This boat can get to the fishing grounds at 60-plus knots, has amenities ranging from bait tanks to fish boxes, and is built with a nicely outfitted cabin for long weekends out chasing pelagics. At nearly 15 feet wide, this center-console cat has uncluttered 22-inch-wide walkways for chasing a fish all around. There’s also a 15-by-4-foot casting platform forward. The in-deck fish boxes are as long as 8 feet, and there are twin 42-gallon transom livewells.

On the day before I got on board, 15 anglers took the same 47 Molokai into the Gulf Stream to chase mahimahi and wahoo. They didn’t feel crowded because the 47 Molokai is CE-certified for as many as 20 passengers, with forward- and aft-facing seats. Under the carbon-fiber hardtop—which is braced for an optional Pipewelders tower—there’s seating for seven people in Stidd seats. Three are in front at the helm, and four are on a mezzanine level for kibitzing about the action.

The dash is user-friendly with twin (or triple) Garmin multifunction displays, CZone switching to control every system, neatly labeled overhead switches and buttons, custom Fusion audio and a Mercury joystick. Flipping up a panel reveals four ignition switches. Standard power on the 47 Molokai is twin 600 hp Mercury V-12 Verados, with quad 400 hp Mercury outboards optional and propelling the 47 Molokai to hit those eye-watering top speeds.

The 1,600 hp clamped to the transom is impressive, but so are other numbers associated with this slippery Peart Yacht Design hull. Running at 47 knots with the quad 400s, the 1,048 gallons of fuel provide a nonstop range of 600 miles with 10 percent reserves.

During my ride, we had a lumpy Gulf Stream with washing-machine chop. Even still, the 47 Molokai was soft-riding and comfortable, including in beam-to seas. Aquila raised the tunnel clearance above water, so there was no sneezing spray blown forward between the hulls, nor any slapping of waves at lower speeds. Quite simply, the power cat felt sidewalk-solid, even when we were at rest offshore.

The boat jumps onto plane quickly, and it was a giggle to use the knob on the steering wheel to spin doughnuts. Even better, at about 31 knots, the sound barely touched 78 decibels, which made for easy conversation.

Aquila built the hull using a lot of carbon fiber, and with resins that are 100 percent vinylester as well as infused for strength. Fore and aft watertight bulkheads add to the vessel’s monocoque strength. Muscular hinges on the three boarding doors (port, starboard and aft) make dive and dock access easy. Every hatch and locker has deep gutters to handle tropical downpours or overeager washdowns.

As a creature comfort, the 47 Molokai has a portable toilet in the cabin, which is outfitted to yacht-level finish with a queen-size berth, two skylights, windows, 6-foot-7-inch headroom, and an enclosed head with a shower. A pantograph door from the portside deck opens directly into the head, keeping the cabin pristine during fishing hours. With the standard lithium batteries, air conditioning will run for a solid eight hours.

I was also impressed by the carefully labeled, tidily loomed and accessible systems. From the baitwells (with a Hooker Pumps sea chest) to the fresh- and saltwater washdown plumbing, everything is easily reached for service. The two heavy-gauge aluminum fuel tanks have a transfer system to run off both or just one, and a charcoal fuel filter is standard.

The 47 Molokai that I got aboard also had the standard 20-plus rod holders and 10 spring-mounted cleats, plus an optional Release Marine leaning post, Gemlux outriggers, and Release Marine ladder-back seats in place of the standard Stidds.

This power cat is worth considering for owners who want a serious sport-fishing vessel, a way to entertain friends and family, or an enjoyable weekender. Beautifully designed and built, this boat is (don’t hate me) the cat’s pajamas.

Headed by naval architect Chris Peart, this team is based in catamaran-rich South Africa. The company’s name is increasingly well known in North America. Power-cat design is a specialty, from initial concepts to engineering details.

The CE designation stands for Conformité Européenne. It ensures compliance with European safety and performance standards. In this case, the 47 Molokai is certified for passengers in the categories of offshore, coastal and inland.

2013 Horizon PC60 – Indigo – Tortola, BVI

With a 24-foot, 6-inch beam and volume that rivals that of a 100-foot monohull motoryacht, Horizon Power Catamarans’ PC60 gives owners home-size living and entertainment spaces in a 60-foot platform. Indigo is a 2013 PC60 that was built by and is currently listed with The Powercat Co, a subsidiary of Horizon Power Catamarans, for $1.965 million. The power cat has a Bahamas-friendly sub-5-foot draft, three well-appointed staterooms and a 1,500-nautical-mile range.

Princess Oxana, a Leopard53 PC, is listed with Galati Yacht Sales at $1.8 million. The 2023 power catamaran has just 200 hours on its Yanmar diesels. The power cat also has a three-stateroom, three-head layout with accommodations to sleep six guests for extended cruising.

Designed for watersports fun, Princess Oxana has a hydraulic swim platform that doubles as the yacht’s tender stowage and lifts to deck height. Stepping into the 53-footer’s cockpit, there are two seating options with a bench seat with L-shaped backrest to starboard and an L-shaped sofa and fixed table to port. Adding a few loose chairs around the table creates alfresco dining six.

2021 Aquila 54 – Liquid – St. Petersburg, Florida

For cruisers looking for a power catamaran ready for voyaging adventures, there is Liquid, a 2021 Aquila 54. This power cat is capable of entertaining 30 guests and sleeping 10 (or more). Liquid has a reported top-end speed of 22 knots, a cruising speed of 15.5 knots and a range of almost 1,000 nautical miles at 7.8 knots. Liquid just came on the market and is asking just under $2.17 million.

2008 Leopard 47PC – Whensday – Stuart, Florida

Whensday, a 2008 Leopard 47 Powercat listed with HMY Yacht Sales for $465,000, is designed by naval architects Morrelli and Melvin and built by South African boatbuilders Robertson and Caine, a company known for its expertise in power-cat construction.

The Leopard 47 Powercat integrates an open-plan layout with exceptional interior volume, offering a comfortable cruising platform catamaran that combines spacious accommodations with admirable performance. Leopards are perennially popular vessels with private owners as well as charter enthusiasts.

Some of the yacht’s recent new-equipment upgrades include reconditioned Cummins diesels, an Onan generator, solar panels, a watermaker and new mechanical, electrical and navigation equipment. Run off the grid using solar power, watermaker and a 260-gallon freshwater tank, while cruising up to 900 nautical miles. AWOL SHAKA, an Axcell Yachts 650 power catamaran, is listed with Worth Avenue Yachts with a new asking price of $2.19 million, which represents about a $1 million reduction from the original asking price.

The 67-foot powercat’s hull was constructed in 2010, however, the yacht was only officially commissioned in 2020, and it underwent an extensive refit in 2022.

The refit included an interior update, outdoor furniture being reupholstered, decks resurfaced, a rebuilt head system, repainted engine and lazzarette bays, upgraded Garmin electronics, and updated tender garage–that accommodates 15-footer–and more.

Water Born’s flybridge can be accessed by three sets of stairs. The main access point is from the cockpit, but a second set of stairs is in the salon and a third set is found on the foredeck.

The Portuguese-style flybridge, which has walkaround room forward of the windscreen, is enclosed in glass with two electrically opening hatches in the hardtop. Guests can be entertained in the fully enclosed, air conditioned space with a leather settee and table that seats nine or go alfresco on the aft deck, which is partially shaded by the hardtop. An electric BBQ, fridge, sink and ice maker lets owners to easily entertain guests. The windows allow for panoramic views from all points. The helmsman has a 360-degree view.

Twin Cummins diesel engines will propel Water Born up to a top speed of 24 knots and an 18-knot cruise speed. Reducing the speed to around 7 knots provides a range of about 1,000 nautical miles. Two bow thrusters, a Dockmate wireless controller and back-up cameras will help captains safely and confidently dock this vessel.    

Water Born‘s foredeck has sun pads and forward-facing cushioned seats with cup holders for guests looking for some fun in the sun. Up a few stairs, guests can easily access the aforementioned flybridge. The cockpit has a non-skid fiberglass sole and is shaded by the flybridge overhang. Forward-facing cushioned seats with table and chairs along with three stools at the wet bar can seat multiple guests during a coastal cruise. Open the salon’s glass door and flip-up the galley window, to for an indoor-outdoor space. 

One of my favorite features on Water Born is the aft galley. Centrally located, owners can easily entertain guests in the salon, cockpit and flybridge. The galley has durable, stain-resistant Corian countertops, a stainless-steel sink with cover, a central island with drawers and a slide-out garbage bin. A three-burner electric stovetop, oven and microwave make food prep easy. There’s also a double-door fridge/freezer and cabinets for more stowage.

The salon is forward of the galley. Shatter-proof windows with external overhangs offer excellent visibility and reduced direct sunlight. Eight guests can be seated on a settee with table to port or a sofa to starboard. Opening the glass door to the aft deck and galley window increases ventilation in the salon area and allows guests to easily mingle between the salon, galley, aft deck and flybridge. Need some additional space for a few overnight guests, the salon converts into two comfortable single beds.  

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of four staterooms that accommodates eight guests. The main-deck master stateroom is a full-beam with king berth and ensuite head. Natural light flows in from windows on three sides of the stateroom, creating a cozy environment for the owners. The ensuite head has his-and-hers sinks and a shower. Guest staterooms with ensuite heads are located in each hull, which sleeps six additional guests.

Two bow thrusters, a Dockmate wireless controller and back-up cameras help with close-quarters maneuvering.

Liquid has a large foredeck with sun pads and forward-facing cushioned seats with cup holders for guests looking to enjoy sundowners and a view. Up a few steps, there is direct access to the flybridge. The cockpit has a Flexi teak sole shaded by the flybridge overhang. Forward-facing cushioned seats with a table and chairs, along with two stools at the wet bar, will seat multiple guests during a coastal cruise. Lower the tender for an excursion to a private beach, or take a dip off the swim platform. Open a glass door and the galley window, the lines between inside and outside entertaining disappear.

One of my favorite features on Liquid is the aft-galley arrangement. Centrally located, owners can easily entertain guests in the salon, aft deck and flybridge. It’s set up with stain-resistant Corian countertops, a stainless-steel sink with cover, a central island with stowage and a slide-out garbage bin. Three-burner propane cooktop, oven and a dedicated microwave storage location with outlet makes for easy meal prep. A double-door fridge/freezer keeps cold goods fresh and an array of cabinets and drawers offer space to stow galley accessories. 

Forward on the main deck is the salon, which benefits from sizable windows with external overhangs, offering excellent visibility and reduced direct sunlight. Set the mood with overhead LED lights, LED mood lighting, LED courtesy lighting and wall-mounted LED lights. Eight guests can be seated on a portside settee with table or a starboard side sofa. Opening the glass door to the aft deck and galley window increases ventilation in the salon and it allows guests to easily mingle between the spaces. Need some additional room for a few overnight guests, the salon furniture converts into two single berths.  

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of five staterooms. The master stateroom has a king-sized berth with an ensuite head and is located forward on the main deck. Versatility is at the heart of the 47 Molokai, which will be the second and larger offering in the Aquila Power Catamarans Offshore range. The vessel measures 49 feet, 4 inches length overall with a 14-foot-7-inch beam. The center-console design builds on the offshore-fishing foundations laid by the 28 Molokai while enhancing entertainment abilities and granting weekending opportunities for a couple.

For anglers, the 47 Molokai has 16 rod holders mounted on the gunwales, another 10 at the bow, six at the transom, eight on the hardtop and four welded into the grab rails just abaft the second-row helm seating. Aquila conceals a tackle stowage box, and a bait- and tackle-rigging station in the backrests of the three-person aft-facing mezzanine seating. Anglers also have tackle-box stowage beneath the second-row helm seating and to port. There are flush-mounted stowage lockers to port and starboard.

Aft, there are two 42.5-gallon transom livewells by Hooker Electric. Here, there is also stowage with a lid on the outboard side of each livewell, and owners heading out for big game can opt to convert these compartments into tuna tubes. The 47 Molokai  has two 90-gallon in-deck fish boxes, each with dedicated macerator pump-outs.

Whereas the 28 Molokai had seating for eight, including its two helm seats, the 47 Molokai has seating for 17 throughout the yacht: 14 forward-facing and three aft-facing positions. There are two foldaway stern bench seats that can seat two people each, in addition to the two rows of seven total helm seats and three foredeck lounge seats. Forward of this seating, there is a sun pad.

Abaft the cockpit’s aft-facing seating, there is a table, but it’s removed if owners choose an outdoor cooking setup instead of the seats. In either configuration, owners will have a place to stow drinks and snacks here, with insulated coolers beneath the seating.

The 47 Molokai has a double-stepped hull design that Aquila says provides better handling and stability, and reduces drag. The hull, deck and cockpit sole are infused with vinylester resin, and there’s an infused-fiberglass structural grid. Primary forward and aft bulkheads are made of carbon fiber, while the secondary bulkheads are vinylester-resin-infused. The 47 Molokai’s hardtop is made of carbon fiber.

New Yachts from European Builders

Benetti and Azimut will be bringing their Italian-built yachts to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, while the Ferretti Group’s Wally brand will be present with its Monaco-based flair. Benetti will display the 112-foot Oasis 34M Ubiquitous, while Azimut will be showing four models in the United States for the first time, and Wally will be featuring the wallywhy150.

Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous

The Benetti Oasis 34M Ubiquitous is scheduled to make its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This is a 112-foot fiberglass motoryacht with exteriors by RWD in Britain and interiors by the New York firm Bonetti & Kozerski. The stern on Ubiquitous has Benetti’s Oasis Deck, which includes two wings that open to enlarge the space. An infinity pool is here as well, and the space adjoins the main-deck salon to give guests the option of sun-drenched or shaded spaces for relaxation.

Also at the show: Benetti will showcase the B.Yond 37M Never Say Never Again. It’s a 121-foot motoryacht from architect Stefano Righini with an E-Mode Hybrid system from Siemens Energy. The idea is to reduce harmful emissions while giving owners the option of four operating modes, including a fully electric mode for zero-emissions cruising.

Four New Yachts from Azimut

Azimut will have four yachts making their Americas premiere at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show: the Verve 48 outboard, Magellano 60, Grande 36M and S7.

The Verve 48 outboard is a sport boat for weekends, designed in collaboration with Francesco Struglia. Its power is triple 600 hp Mercury outboards that promise a top speed of 50 knots. The stern has been updated from previous models; it now includes “the most extensive swim platform ever,” according to Azimut.

Crossover appeal is at the heart of the Magellano 60, with features intended for longer-distance cruising. For sustainability, the Azimut Magellano 60 can be delivered with HVOlution, a biofuel produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility. Azimut says this fuel, when combined with the shipyard’s semi-planing Dual Mode hull, can reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by more than 80 percent compared to yachts using traditional fuel.

With the Grande 36M, Azimut is showcasing a semi-walkaround upper deck that runs on the same level from the stern almost to the tip of the bow. The idea is to create an area that didn’t exist before on boats this size. Exterior design on the Azimut Grande 36M is by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Achille Salvagni.

The Azimut S7 is a 72-foot yacht built with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion and a “super-lightweight” hull for a sporty ride. Azimut says the S7 also reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions by as much as 30 percent compared to shaft-line boats with traditional chine hulls. Exteriors are by Alberto Mancini, with interiors by Yachtique.

This 78-foot motoryacht can be ordered with triple Volvo Penta IPS1350 engines for a maximum speed of 23 knots. With the standard Volvo Penta IPS1200s, that figure is 21 knots. Exterior spaces include a completely open upper deck with dining, sunbathing and a shaded lounge. Princess Yachts Y95

The Princess Yachts Y95 is the new flagship of the builder’s Y Class series, which features open-flybridge models 72 feet and larger. This 95-footer can reportedly achieve a top hop of 24 knots, thanks to the twin 2,000 hp MAN V-12 engines, and it has a full-beam master stateroom on the main deck that lets in extra natural light through skylights. Guests are accommodated in four belowdecks staterooms. Draft is 6 feet, 6 inches, making the Princess Y95 a yacht that allows for access to the world’s most beautiful harbors.

Sunseeker Ocean 182

The Sunseeker Ocean 182, which was also displayed at the Newport International Boat Show, is an 88-foot yacht that is the fifth model in the builder’s Ocean series. It has an enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge that is home to the only helm station on board. Power is a pair of 1,650 hp or 1,900 hp MAN V-12s, with the builder promising a top speed of 27 knots. At a cruise speed of 12 knots, range is reportedly 1,800 nautical miles. All the guest accommodations are belowdecks: an amidships, full-beam master along with four guest staterooms.

Sirena 78

Turkish builder Sirena Yachts is bringing the Sirena 78 to the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Its design is by Cor D. Rover and Germán Frers, with the builder reporting a top speed of 27 knots as well as a cruising range of 1,550 nautical miles. Some of the key design features include a versatile flybridge with customizable spaces and sizable guest accommodations.

The Superpowered Princess X80

Princess Yachts is also bringing its X80 explorer motoryacht to the Fort Lauderdale show. Along with 31-knot speed and four en suite staterooms, the X80 has what the builder calls a “super flybridge.” Princess says this deck is 30 percent bigger than other flybridges on similarly sized flybridge yachts. This space has four gathering areas, including two sun pads forward, a wet bar aft and an L-shaped settee with a dining table to port. The X80’s main deck is dedicated entirely to socializing, with an L-shaped settee accompanied by a dining table forward.

Galeon 450 HTC

The big premiere from Galeon Yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will be the Galeon 450 HTC. It’s a Tony Castro design that can be ordered with an optional hydraulic swim platform and an optional third stateroom for guests. The standard layout is two staterooms with two heads, including a full-beam master. This yacht has a 4-foot, 3-inch draft that allows it to access skinny waters in locations like the Bahamas. 80 Sunreef Power Eco

Its hull has a variable deadrise with a deep keel, sharp bow entry and flattened progression aft, all intended for comfortable and efficient offshore cruising. Standard power is twin 800 hp Volvo Penta D13s. Owners also can opt for 1,000 hp Volvo Pentas or 1,150 hp Scania Di16s.

Riviera 585 SUV: Does It All

Riviera says its multi-uses 585 SUV represents the “culmination of 10 years of evolution and the launch of more than 220 SUV yachts.” The yacht has three staterooms and three heads with a full-beam master amidships. In addition to its cruising, water-sports and angling flexibility, the 585 SUV is entertainment-centric with its sizable cockpit and semi-enclosed alfresco deck. Power is a pair of 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s or 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350s. For flybridge enthusiasts, the builder is also debuting its 46 Sports Motor Yacht.

Aquila 47 Molokai

Built in China, the Aquila 47 Molokai is the latest model from Aquila Power Catamarans. It’s outfitted for offshore cruising and fishing, with an en suite stateroom that’s air-conditioned and a queen-size berth. The design and build are a collaboration of Sino Eagle Yachts and Peart Yacht Design.

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Crewed-Yacht Living

The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend is a 120-foot superyacht penned by Evan K. Marshall, notable for its sole-to-ceiling glass across three decks, allowing for ocean vista from most points on board. From its seaside beach club to its foredeck lounge, rest and relaxation is at the forefront of this yacht’s design. Built in the USA: Viking 90

Eclipse 505 and 605: South African Stunners

The Eclipse 505 and Eclipse 605 are both Michael Peters designs that use the company’s Stepped-V Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) hull. The Michael Peters team also contributed to naval architecture on both models, alongside Du Toit Yacht Design in South Africa. That’s where these boats are built, by Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing in Cape Town. It’s a yard that was founded in 1989 and that has specialized in custom and semi-custom catamarans from 27 to 150 feet length overall. The Eclipse 505 has two staterooms and two heads, while the Eclipse 605 has three of each. The hull drafts are minimal (2 feet, 11 inches on the Eclipse 505, and 3 feet, 3 inches on the Eclipse 605) so the boats can be used in cruising grounds like the Bahamas.

Eastbay 60: The Largest Eastbay So Far

The Eastbay brand has been on the water with many models since 1993 but has been revitalized since 2014, when GB Marine Group—the parent company of Grand Banks and Eastbay—got a new boss. He charged the team with creating the Eastbay 44, which incorporated GB Marine’s V-Warp technology. Customer demand then led to the creation of the new Eastbay 60, which has the same technology, along with an extensive use of carbon fiber, and updated accommodations with an eye toward luxury. Preliminary sea trials, according to the builder, show a 27-knot cruising speed and a 33-knot top speed with optional 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200s. Optional 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350s take those numbers up to 30 and 38 knots, respectively.

Apreamare Gozzo 45: Walkaround Design

Apreamare, which has been building boats in Italy since 1849, has a new Gozzo-line flagship model: the Gozzo 45. Designer Marco Casali of Too Design, working with Cataldo Aprea and the Apreamare technical department, is primarily responsible for creating the Gozzo 45. They describe the boat as a “classy cruiser” that stands apart from other, “increasingly redundant” models of the same size in the marketplace. The cockpit table is intended for entertaining with eight to 10 guests, while the two-stateroom, two-head accommodations plan belowdecks is set up for weekends on the hook. (An optional three-stateroom, two-head layout is also available.) Engine packages can be traditional shaft-line or Volvo Penta IPS installations.

Aquila 42: A Sleek Catamaran Ready to Entertain

Aquila Yachts has announced plans for a 42-foot power catamaran that is on track to make its debut in February 2023. The model will join the company’s existing lineup of power cats that go as big as 70 feet length overall. So far, Aquila has revealed that the 42 will have two staterooms available in multiple configurations, along with a utility cabin and twin 230 hp or 300 hp Volvo Penta D4 diesels. This will be a great option for someone looking for a small, yet mighty cruising boat. Guest relaxation areas will be concentrated on the flybridge, in the cockpit and on the foredeck. The new boat will be built to the standard known as CE Certification Category A, which means it will be suitable for seas up to 13 feet as well as winds above 40 knots—in other words, get ready for some serious, longer-distance cruising itineraries.

Prestige M48: First Model in a New Line

The M48 is the first model in the new M-Line of catamarans from Prestige Yachts in France, which also makes three additional lines of motoryachts from 42 to 70 feet length overall. The M48’s open cockpit has seating for as many as eight people, and a nearby aft platform lowers electrically so it becomes flush with the twin transom platforms, creating a nearly 20-foot-wide space that can be used as a beach club or a tender launch. The flybridge has guest seating and dining. The master stateroom is positioned forward with a king-size berth, while owners can choose the layouts and berth sizes for guest staterooms. Prestige reports a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top-end speed of 20 knots with standard Volvo Penta engines.

Azimut Grande 26M: A Low-Emission Yacht

The Azimut Grande 26M, which was presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, has the Italian builder’s Large POD propulsion system. It is designed to reduce fuel consumption and carbon-dioxide emissions by 20 percent—a big selling point, according to Azimut, which reported 22 hulls sold as of early December. This is a five-stateroom yacht that includes a full-beam owners’ stateroom on the main deck. Exterior designer Alberto Mancini says one of the prime spaces on board is the oversize cockpit: “We wanted to extend to give the yacht a fully fledged dining area overlooking the water.” In terms of performance, Azimut says the 26M cruises at 24 knots with a top hop of 28 knots.

Arcadia A96: Coming This Fall

Arcadia Yachts in Italy is planning for the premiere of the Arcadia A96 at this autumn’s Cannes Yachting Festival. The power package is unusual, with four (count ’em) Volvo Penta IPS1200s, or optional IPS1350s. The setup allowed Arcadia to devote more space to guest areas forward of the powerplants, and to give skippers features at the helm such as joystick maneuvering and dynamic positioning. There is also an optional silent-mode system that uses solar panels for eight to nine hours of operations overnight without the hum of a generator. The builder says the boat has a “quiet-running” system for air conditioning too, further helping to keep the ambience for guests on board, ahem, perfectly chill.

The Aquila 42 Yacht has multiple layouts and is a perfect option for someone looking for a pocket cruiser; in the standard configuration, there are two staterooms and a utility cabin. Three- and four-stateroom versions are also available.

Intrepid has long been a popular yacht-tender option. The Intrepid 427 Nomad FE should keep the tradition going with its wave-slicing entry; single-stepped hull form; twin, triple or quad outboards (300 to 600 hp) from Mercury, Yamaha or Suzuki; and yacht-level finish. Serious craftsmanship is found in elements such as the standard powder-coating and the optional diamond-stitched upholstery. Anglers will find that the 427 FE has an uncluttered cockpit, 360-degree fishability, cockpit corner livewells (optional), and fish stowage in-sole and forward under an adjustable sun pad. Other angling options include outriggers, rod holders, undergunwale rod stowage, and prewiring for downriggers or electric reels. The helm has a triple-seat setup, and there is more seating forward of the console, on the foredeck sun pad and two more seats flanking the bow. A high-low table at the bow adds a place for lunch or cocktails after a day of catching.

“Robust” is a word that comes to mind when looking at the Scout 350 LXZ. It’s part of the builder’s S-class series, which means the boat has an epoxy-infused E-glass hull that’s oven-baked for eight hours and post-cured. The builder reports about a 34 percent weight savings compared with traditional build methods and about four times the stiffness. Add a deep-V, dual-stepped hull with 24 degrees of deadrise and an all-weather helm with a full glass windshield, and the 350 LXZ is ready to run deep. Power is twin or triple outboards to a maximum of 1,350 hp. The boat has a 31-gallon livewell and 49-gallon in-deck fish boxes to port and starboard. Other notable features are the lithium-ion power system and hardtop-mounted solar panels (read: no generator needed to power onboard systems). If owners want to eat the day’s catch for lunch, the cockpit has a sink, a cutting board and an optional grill.

Designed in Hawaii but built for all oceans, the Aquila 28 Molokai Power Catamaran has a wide, deep hull tunnel that creates an air cushion underway, providing the sensation of flying across the water at 40-plus knots, with optional twin 200 hp Mercury outboards on the pins. (Twin 150 hp outboards are standard.) At its 28.6-knot cruise speed, the cat’s range is about 228 nautical miles.

Aimed at anglers, the 28 Molokai’s notable fishing features include two 94-gallon insulated fish boxes, a 30-gallon livewell for frisky goggle-eyes, 15 rod holders and Taco outriggers. Need more live bait? There is about 4 feet of space forward for cast-net tossing. The boat also has a sink, a cutting board and pullout tackle boxes.

For hanging out on the hook, the 28 Molokai has forward-facing foldout seats in the cockpit, a bench seat forward of the helm console, and two more lounges and another bench seat at the bow.

Contender’s center-consoles are built for speed, running in a seaway and fishability. The Contender 44CB can harness the power of triple or quad outboards to a total of 2,000 hp. With triple 425 Yamaha XTOs, the builder reports a top hop of 58 knots. At 4,000 rpm, the boat’s cruise speed is about 34.6 knots. For anglers looking to keep their catch, the 44CB has two 110-gallon in-sole fish boxes to port and starboard, a 340-gallon fish box forward, and two 55-gallon livewells to keep live bait fresh for that sailfish tournament.

Based in Homestead, Florida, Contender works with owners to customize each 44CB, ranging from hull color and stereo systems to electronics packages, extra rod holders and more.

The Pursuit S 358 Sport is the builder’s first 35-foot center-console. Equipped for chasing pelagics, the S 358 comes standard with a 32-gallon in-transom livewell, a dozen rod holders, a tackle center and 27-gallon in-sole fish boxes. Owners who like to troll for big game can add 18-foot telescoping Taco outriggers or 20-foot carbon-fiber riggers. Powered with twin 425 hp Yamaha XTO outboards, the S 358 cruises around 26.7 knots at 4,000 rpm, for a range around 265 nautical miles with a 10 percent reserve on the 343-gallon fuel tank. Top speed is about 42.6 knots. Other notable options include air conditioning for the cabin and cockpit totaling 18,000 Btu, a Seakeeper 2 gyrostabilizer, and a 6 kW Fischer Panda diesel generator.

With its SeaV2 variable-deadrise hull form, the Grady-White Canyon 326 is a boat with fishing as its mission. Its broad 10-foot-9-inch beam and 20-degree transom deadrise create a stable platform when running, on the troll or when drifting. With just a 2-foot draft, the Canyon 326 can also access skinny-water areas for inshore angling.

When heading out to the deep, the trip should be quick. Twin 300 hp Yamaha four-stroke outboards provide a 26.2-knot cruise speed at 3,700 rpm. Range at cruise speed is 1.6 miles per gallon. Top speed: 43.2 knots.

Standard angling amenities include 16 rod holders, a 32-gallon lighted livewell, a cutting board, two 180-quart fish boxes, a 318-quart fish box, a lean bar with a 38-gallon livewell and more. Some options are a casting platform, outriggers, choice of five hull colors, a SureShade retractable shade with Sunbrella canvas, T-top side wing curtains and a bow thruster.
